I placed an order for a Sager (look sig) and I'm getting second thoughts about the glossy screen I picked (stock as well). My question is: Is the stock matte screen on the NP9170 good? I'm terrified of getting a gaming laptop and then having to put up with a matte screen that although prevents glare, has its contrast and color vibrancy faded and dull.

    Any thoughts?

The anti-glare is not such a big deal to me because I'll mostly use the laptop as a desktop replacement in a "tailored" setting. But I was just wondering if the difference in apparent contrast/color vibrancy is small enough to justify getting the Matte.

According to this review, the screen is very nice.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but they review a ton of machines and even calibrate them for their reviews.

I got the stock matte and I really like it :)
I chose matte because reflections drive me mental, and I wanted to be able to use my laptop in bright settings (group rooms with bright lights at school, the sunroom in my apartment).
My previous laptop had a glossy screen, but I'm much happier now with my matte. It is very bright and sharp, colours look very good, and viewing the angles are good enough for me.
That being said you will likely find a glossy screen to be a bit brighter and have more saturated colours (before calibration. After it should be about the same). The stock matte also has a bit of a "sparkle" when viewing pure white backgrounds. This doesn't bother me but others might find it irritating.

imo if you are gonna use it mostly in a tailored setting, i would recommend getting the glossy instead. Glossy>matte when under tailored conditions :)

It is an excellent screen in my opinion, although I was never a stickler for screen quality.

Well I checked the threads here. One claims that the chi minh panel is sand-papery.

Another claims (the LG panels) that the matte has higher contrast and brightness and better white/black values .. which doesn't make sense.

I'm about to order it with the Standard Matte-Type screen. I heard something about the response time of the screen compaired to the glossy? The MS or something? Anyone have any info on this?
