I dropped a screw inside while replacing my wifi card a few days ago (see http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/766945-sager-np9170-cooling-elements.html). It turns out the screw got stuck to a magnet on the top right of the top plate, so in the process I had to take off both the GPU and CPU. I accidentally touched some of the thermal pads, so I decided to buy some and swap them out.

Now, a few days later, after replacing the thermal pads and the thermal pastes and putting everything back, the laptop will no longer start. I checked and the fan wires are connected.

When I plug in the mains or have the battery on, the respective lights turn on, so I don't think it's a power issue.

    Can anyone help?

OK I'm pretty dumb. One of the ribbon cables on top of the keyboard was not really connected. I was able to pull it out even with the locks on. It turns out I need to lift the cable slightly before inserting it, so that it fits snugly into the connector.

Well, it's a lot better than if you had shorted something on the motherboard :) Thanks for letting us know what it was :)
