Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

SLI works in Vista now.... its seems to have the best results in this notebook compared to other SLI noteooks (Dell M1730 and Toshiba X205).

XP and Vista 32-bit has the best performance with the current SLI drivers... but they are getting better and better.

Vista 64-bit has SLI support now, but it still needs some improvement, probably will a be a better driver in about a week or two.

In any case, that looks like a beast of a setup. Whats your budget? You can save some cash by just getting the Q6600 and use it to get a larger 7200rpm drive.

Thanks for the input, my budget is fairly large, but the gf wants me to cut it down as much as I can.

So the Q6600 isn't much of a compromise?

Alienware has the 7950GTX cheaper than the 8700M GT, but Sager has it more expensive, any reason?

the Alienware M9750 is about to be replaced with a new model M17X... which will launch on the 19th.

The M9750 was old before it even came out due to it using the old Napa Platform (limited chipset can only handle 3gigs of RAM).... the new Santa Rosa platform did better with new mobile Core 2 Duo's thats power efficient and the chipset supports the full 4 gigs of RAM.

... and the Clevo D900C (Sager 9261) is using a desktop platform that can let it support the fastest CPUs for notebooks. and having the exclusive MXM-IV format for videocards and 3 internal HDDs... its worth it.

Alienware may be attempting to clear stock of the 7950GTX for the 8800 that is coming up.

I've read that the Desktop processors in laptops tend to burn out after about a year, true?

Is it safer to just go with a mobile processor?

Most of the issues were do to the older procs and not enough cooling...

The 9261 is much, much, much better in cooling......

The desktop procs are more powerful... Just don't expect to run too long on battery...

I have been cooking my Intel P4 3GHz HT for the last four years in my Sager 8890. The old beast ran hot sometimes but performed fine all the time.

The 9261 is another story. Big heatsinks, large noiseless fans. No sweat, it is cool!!

The Sager 9261 (Clevo D901C) has put a new standard on how cool a notebook can be with desktop CPUs... even the new Quad-core CPUs barely warms the notebooks amazing thermal design.

I have used many computers and laptops over the years. I purchased my 9261 about a month ago now and would recomend it to anyone looking for a high end mobile platform that has all the performance of a desktop with convenice of a laptop. It stays cool with normal use and does not over heat when gaming. I personally am happy with my decsion to wait for this DTR. Sager has reached a level in the design of personal computing with this setup.

I really haven't checked it out. From an first look type of thing if you set it power savings you can get about +/- 90 minutes. Maybe closer to 80 minutes, not great but it is close to what I got off of my 17" Toshibia and I do not run off the battery much. I move around a lot but usually have access to some kind of AC.

I am going to bookmark that it should work well for this it has close to the same power rating. Even if it only gives you an extra hour it would be worth it at times.
