I didn't go for the Quad Core Processors yet because the software I use most doesn't yet benefit from it. In the future I consider to upgrade the processor.

Well, I am curious when my system will arrive and hope to share my experiences here!

The xotic website shows delivery by Oct 19th (I have one on order too).

I'm curious on your 6850 selection for cpu when the quad 6600 is cheaper. Yeah you lose 266 MHz off the speed but you double your cores. Well worth it to me :).

Yeah, isn't the whole point of going for the NP9261 is to get the Quad Core?

True and I will have a quad when it brings me more speed. Reviews show that for Office productivity and data analysis the E6850 is faster than the quads. The E6850 runs at 3GHz and FSB1300. For me, for now it is the best choice. But for gamers...

i don't think the motherboard runs at 1300 fsb, only is capable of running the 1300 fsb chips (and downclocks their fsb to match the motherboard's). new and faster quads will require more power and the motherboard will not be able to support them without another motherboard revision. not worth sacrificing half the cores for a couple hundred more mhz, really. also, your wsxga screen is matt finish. i think you should hold out until the glossy versions are back in stock as they give a better and more vibrant picture.

This is not the impression I get when reading the specs on various reseller sites. I am expecting an actual FSB speed of 1333. Does anyone know for sure whether this will or will not be the case?

For me, the Q6600 should be sufficient though it could be a small bottle-neck in the odd game or two . It more than makes it up for it, though, when it comes to media encoding, which I plan to be doing more of in the not-to-distant future.

Worst-comes-to-worst, I could replace it with a higher-clocked dual core chip later on if it really becomes an issue...it's only money after all :D

The Q6600 is very attractive now and of course it is very sexy to just have a Quad core laptop. Check here for a review: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2quad-q6600.html

But ultimately, I will have to work this beast. Mainly data analysis with "traditional" applications such as Excel and Access and special stuff like GIS-mapping. Off course I will be playing games to, but that comes in second. I will run Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

I am not going to do overclocking because I don't want to have a meltdown with a notebook that may already be "on the edge". So, for now I will go with the E6850.

Then about this screen. I am still thinking about it. I am used to work with multiple displays on my Sager 8890, whenever possible. I have seen the glossy screens and have to admitt that these screens do boost contrast and color.

Congrats Hanko, I recently ordered one as well a couple days ago when Justin at Xotic announced that they are offering it with 2 x 8700 in SLi. here is the config:
    - Processor: ~Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6700 2.66GHz
    - Ram: ~ 2,048MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) D
    - Video Card: SLI ENABLED DUAL (2) 8700GT 512MB PCI-E
    - Arctic Silver: Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
    - Display: 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Cl
    - Secondary Hard Drive: ~160GB Seagate Momentus 3GB/S SA
    - Primary Hard Drive: ~160GB Seagate Momentus 3GB/S SA
    - Optical Drive: ~Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +
    - Exterior Finish: Standard Finish

I am just really anxious to test 8700s in SLi. I have seen the Dell M1730 posting with a Future Mark 06 score of 8091 but I think the D901C can score higher.

As for the glossy screen Hanko, ever since I got the Asus G1 with one, I have loved it. There maybe some areas where the lighting may make it difficult to see because of glare but most of the time it is beautiful.

gz on the new purchase! I can't wait to get mine as well. I was torn with Q6600 vs Q6700. I went for the Q6600 for cost really. I hear that you can bump the base FSB frequency up to 333 on the Q6600 and then you have a true FSB of 1333, and 3.0GHz core speed. Sounds wicked.

Congrats! I hope that you'll add more RAM later and an SSD too!

BTW, the Dell XPS M1730 garnered a 3DMark06 of 8019. And another little thing that a little confusing over at the Dell website, on their configuration page, it lists the 8700M GT as 512MB, but then their specs. page has it as the 256MB Go 8700GS in SLi.

My Sager NP9261 has arrived. Firts impressions:

    - good looking, not to much bling-bling
    - robust design, even quite compact for such a beast
    - Vista Ultimate 64bit came installed - as planned
    - beautiful, high contrast and colorful screen, no dead pixels seen yet
    - big power brick, easily outweighs compact laptops :)

More to come, I promise photo's!

Hi Hanko Panko! Please tell us something more about noise during idle or normal office work and internet. My reseller was so nice to let me listen to it by phone... it sounds pretty silent I have to say.

I envy you so much! I'm trying to get my hands on this laptop in Europe, but it is proving to be quite a mission..

I too am undecided whether I should go for the C2D 3.0 or the Quad core 2.4. I really dont know much about the new quad cores and so I don't know if I will see a performance improvement by choosing it. My typical use for the laptop will be CAD/3D Modelling/Engineering programs, word processing and occasional gaming. I do plan on getting the SLI'd 7950GTX's too.

Do not envy me but realise that the world is a small place. I live in the Netherlands and ordered from www.sagernotebook.com. Dollars are very cheap and delivery went very smooth. I have done this before with my previous Sager. The only risk that you are running is paying shipment charges in case of serious problems.

Sagernotebook delivered me a great and fast system in no time. I am very satisfied with them.

I paid custom tax but will deduct it because I bought it for my own company :). So buying this Sager was no big deal; dollars are peanuts now and I reduce my companies Income tax this way.

    Attached some pics:

The standard colouring/style actually looks a whole lot better than I thought.
To be honest, Sagernotebook.com and others ought to use higher quality pictures for their systems, similar to those you just posted.

Congratulations on your new system. I hope you will enjoy it.

Hi, hanko panko congratulation on getting your new Sager NP9261. Wow that is some good picture that you took of the NP9261. I am hoping my Sager NP9261 will be shipped today by XOTIC PC and I can't wait till I get it on Saturday and I will also take a lot of pictures and benchmark it. Also good to here that it is a quiet machine.
