I was having horrid overheating issues on my NP9262 with dual 9800M GTX cards; really bad fan revving after 15 minutes and OS/game crashing if I ran the system for too long. I tried most of the tricks already discussed, but my laptop would still overheat. I was even thinking of pulling out one video card to have things run cooler.

Then I looked at my dog. My hairy sheddy dog.

After the last crash I let the laptop cool down for a few hours, and then I flipped it over, disconnected the battery, and unscrewed the largest bay... a little bit of dust bunnies, but nothing really bad. And then I saw a hair between one of the copper heat sinks. I pulled at it with a pair of tweezers and a hair/dust knot came along with it. A-HA!

After that I unscrewed/unplugged all four system fans (leaving the copper heat sinks alone) and found a thick layer of hair and dust between each fan exhaust and it's heat sink, something like you would see in a laundry dryer filter. That was the problem. When hairs get sucked up into the NP9262 fans, they overlap and catch dust and create a barrier between the fan exhausts and the heat sinks/copper air intakes, so the fans have to work harder and the system eventually overheats.

After I put my NP9262 back together I played King's Bounty: Armored Princess for 2 hours on the highest settings and the fans haven't made much noise at all. I'm going to clean this beast out every 3-4 months now that I know what to do. Hope this helps other frustrated Sager users.

    Welcome to the forum :)

I`m glad you worked it out. Cleaning the vents , especially when you have a hairy sheddy dog, should be mandatory every couple of months or so :)
