Hey everyone,
I've got a Sager NP9262 that's a bit over a year old and I've struggled with some issues involving it for a while now. I've got dual 9800M GTX cards, and I've turned SLI off (I sometimes plug it into a 30" display, though that isn't a factor in this case).
I use the Fn-1 key combination to spin up all the fans and have turned detail settings way down in several games (Dawn of War II's expansion is the easiest offender) and the system's heat just builds to over 90 C which both makes me nervous and looks like it invokes the GPU's temperature control and slows the thing down. Considering I'm running at 1280 resolution and with all the details way down, no antialiasing, etc. this seems WAY too fast to be expected, and I was wondering if anyone might have some hints as to drivers, software, maybe some form of underclocking that might get this under control. I've tried a bunch of driver versions on my own but none seem to have a significant effect.
For reference I'm running drivers 197.16 for mobiles which I got off the nVidia site a while back. If anyone has any ideas I'm more than open to experiment, but it seems like a waste to have all this power and have to turn it all off to keep it from nuking itself (especially while I've got the fans forced onto full bore!)

$10 says you need to take it to the dustbusters.
-
its recommended to take the base off and clean out and around the fans with a can of compressed air every 3-6 months as dust buildup adds to overall temps.
-
Maybe even take out the heatsinks and spray out the fins with alcohol after the air.
-
Maybe apply some thermal paste (Arctic Sync?).

Just to give a point of reference...
My NP9262 is almost 3 years old now.
Q6600 - 8800M GTX SLI
It idles right around 50-55 C on CPU.
It goes up to about 70 on full load, with max fan.
The GPU temps are similar if I remember.
I recently cleaned out the fans, and re-arctic silvered the CPU and GPUs
