just curious to see who uses the digital output from the 9262 and if anyone has used an external usb 2.0 soundcard. If so, was there any noticable gain in sound quality?

external USB sound is not good if its generic.

Only the new X-Fi external and pro-audio external sound cards will give a great sound quality experience.

as for the on-board audio, its pretty good if you optimize it (on notebook speakers, headphone, or 7.1 through SPDIF)

So I will get better sounding music through an X-Fi than a usb 2.0 interface such as the emu 0404? I'm only concerned about the quality of sound for listening to music as opposed to surround for movies, games etc...
