Nice! Hope you enjoy it. I'd really like to see the benchmarks this thing can put out, probably somewhere close to 16k stock.

15k tops if the i7 965 can't be overclocked. Justin already got 13200~13300 at stock speeds, but I haven't seen a GPU-Z shot if that's with the memory at 800 or 950.

It was memory at 950. IT was in one of his photos with GPU-Z.

why does it have higher 3d marks than the np5797??
they have the same graphics card, which should be the bottleneck, regardless of the processor.

what about gaming performance, the cpu doesn't really matter in crysis, for example?

With the config. that I want it's well over $5,600. This main course will be a holiday gift to myself. And hopefully Windows 7 is out by then so I can get it along with this power house one time.

    Dont worry about Win 7!
If you buy Win Vista now, you can upgrade to win 7 later for free. This has happened since February this year.
But that's always good to wait so that you can see the review of price even be lower at the time you pull the trigger.
IMO, the price is very decent.

    - Unreal Engine 3 games
    - GTAIV

Is there actually a real benefit of going for this instead of a 5797, (apart of course of the processor)?

This is a more capable workstation, with as much 12GB DDR3 memory and 3 HDDs that can RAIDed for security or speed, as well as the obvious benefit of the i7. But if all you want is to game, the i7 is a bit overkill for just the 280M, and the QX9300 is still a fighter.

Yeah, I am not sure why they don't offer 280's in SLI. If they could, along with the i7 965, im sure it could hit around 20k.

Until there is an option for SLI, I will avoid this...

I think it also has to do with the lack of an appropriate SLi solution from nVidia - if I recollect correctly from my forum-browsing earlier this week.

If the first 24 hours are any indication the Sager NP9280 is going to be a very high volume item...just like the NP9262 was.

Now, for some real facts...only about 18% of the NP9262s were purchased with SLi.

There is nothing wrong with holding a minority opinion...just as long as you recognize that you do.

    Major ownage.

I asked this in another thread, but does the 9280 use the same keyboard as the 5797 and other Sager models?

Is there any info on the heat output and battery life of this monster? I'm a little weary of purchasing a lappy that has a 130w cpu under the hood. Battery life isn't super important to me i suppose... but I would really appreciate something with the power of the NP9280 that could survive me watching a movie on an airplane. I move around a lot in the military, and need something powerful that i can tote around with me (carrying an Antec 1200 under my arm = not optional). I enjoy playing WoW and CoD4 in my spare time, so the laptop would need to handle those games at high resolutions. If i'm looking at the wrong laptop for my needs, would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

Oh and another thing. I've been searching the net for a while now trying to find a laptop that matches the aesthetics of, say, an Alienware M17X. Are there any other retailers that use a similar chassis/lighting scheme?

    Thanks in advance :p

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

Alienware used to rebranded these systems.

If you are interested in the Clevo D900F (Sager 9280), you should realize that Alienware made the alienhead lids for it with their M7700 line... which fits perfectly.

And the Clevo M980NU (Sager 9850) looks amazing with nice aesthetics (pretty lights and stuff) for the gamers that like to show off. ;)

That's EXACTLY what i'm going for (as far as looks are concerned)
GTX280m and a quad under the hood sounds nice as well. Will there be a RAID option for this laptop, or will i be confined to a single-drive config? Also, how will pricing be? I'd like to stay under the 3k mark, unless SSD's start coming with larger capacities and lower price tags soon.

sorry for trolling your thread btw.... i'll move over to a clevo M980NU thread

What MrPresident meant is that you only get the upgrade option on copies of vista bought after that date, win7 won't be shipping till later.

    i was expecting like 3k minimum for i7 + gtx 280m combination..
my configuration came out to be 2.3k and that's definitely in
my price range. oh, yeah.. but eta is late may which means this
thing hasn't released yet, right? think i will wait a month and order one
and sell my current one. lol..

oh, btw, is xotic pc reliable? i have never ordered any laptop from

    how about driver support?
if i get one next month, obviously, i am going to install vista 32bit.
but later this year, windows 7 is going to come out and i am pretty
sure i will be upgrading to it. so they are going to release driver
for windows 7 for this too right? or should i give some more time b4
    upgrading?

I would just upgrade to the 64 ultimate if you can, I "believe" windows 7 still works off the base OS as well, so you would see better performance if you went that direction

first, No offense for those who love Np9280. At level of gaming laptop, we should pay for performance rather than the look and the brand. Take a look at xoticpxc forum, np9280 3dmark06 13k i'm dissapointed in performance with core i7 the 3dmark06 cpu score 5200. If you make comparision to ocz dual ati with QX9300 the 3dmark06 cpu 4200 reached 16K. In my opinion, dual ati 3870 could slightly beat gtx 280m sli. If you wait for 17' laptop with ati 4870 crossfire, that will be the best choice. If ocz have the 3dmark06 cpu scoring 5200 points , that would boost 3dmark06 18k.

there is 4870x2 equipped laptop from asus. it's going for 2.4k and with qx9300 equipped, it will be around 3k. but still, i never was ati fan. i just don't
like ati graphic cards nor do i like mobile processor. i really don't care about synthetic benchmark and i know no laptop on earth can beat my desktop
no matter how much money i pay for it(unless of course, goverment build you special agent only super laptop). and no.. i don't like dual gpu.. =(
single gtx 280m is enough for my laptop gaming needs for time being
and i need more of cpu power for my needs. i am pretty sure i7 920 beats
crap out of qx9300 no contest in video editing and other cpu demending
    programs i am using.. besides it's 2.4k(i7 + gtx 280m) vs 3k+ (qx9300 + 4870x2).. so i am all good with this single video card. =)

Well for what it's worth, 3dmark06 doesn't really say much about real world performance, and get this; dual ATi 4870s score around the same as dual 3870s with the same CPU. But the former is definitely a more powerful solution.

Also, I can see this machine going against the likes of the top end workstation notebooks like the HP Elitebooks, Dell Precisions and the Lenovo W700s, and it should be pretty successful given the price/performance.

well, 3dmark is well known for measuring graphic performance especially for gaming only to see how much fps ( frame per second) you gain in game. Alienware and Dell sometimes they use 3dmark06 to advertise their gaming notebooks. Again, 3dmark is just for graphic only, not for some other applications

3dmark06 is just that, out of date.
