Yeah, I'm starting to take Vantage GPU more as a benchmark for GPU prowess than 3Dmark06.

In 3DM06, the Whitebook (3870x2) seems to be competitive with the NP9262 (9800GTX SLI) and W90Vp (4870 Xfire), but when you run Vantage GPU, there is quite a large gap between the 3870x2 and the other two systems.

I subscribe to that. I think Vantage gives a better view of performance comparison and expectations... as long as you disable physx of course. But until Vantage becomes standard for everyone I will stick with 3dmark06.

And your proof came out of my signature  But honestly, I already know this. Me and a whitebook owner compared in another thread. I'm happy with trailing a dual 256 bit gpu setup by only 10-15% lol

maybe 8k vantage and 14k 06, but definitely not higher. Someone with a QX9300 is a hair way from 14k right now, but there's not much room for more.

well that doesn't mean much because earlier you said that dual 3870s can beat a GTX 280M SLi solution, which is TWO GTX 280M cards. And what you showed by your standards is that an OC'd GTX 280M is fairly close to dual 3870s.

IMO the only real time when there will be a full blown head on head battle between ATI and nVIDIA is when the two options will be available on the same laptop. As in the M570ETU with both 280M and ATI 4870. Until then it's hard to compare, there are many variables that can influence the results, including CPU OC and so on.

So there is really no point in discussing this further. It's a dead end.

Most of the alienware's seem to offer both ati and nvidia...but alienware does use outdated tech.

It is not offered with the Quadro card yet because nVidia has not offered the solution for this model yet...but stand by because it should be available before long.

Hi, I'm new to the forum but got so much out of being a lurker i figured i ought to give something back.
I have windows 7 running on the 9280 with no problems...except one...the infrared driver isn't on the disk supplied with the 9280 so i couldn't force an install of it like i had to do for the SD reader (install using compatability settings for vista sp2).

So far everything is working just fine and dandy 9280+windows 7.
