Hello Everyone! Today I've customized my own future desktop replacement. I posted it here so that you guys will be able to review it, and impart some of your knowledge based on your experiences with this particular brand, and build. Also, if you guys could suggest or recommend a different specs or build or even a different brand or machine then I will gladly accept it. So please be honest and be serious as possible with your replies because this is not only for me but also for somebody out there who might get some ideas whenever they planned on buying their very own future laptop.
Just to let you guys know that I will mainly use this machine for extreme high-end gaming both for online and offline, and maybe for the last 4-5 years. Meaning...it will be future proof for the latest demanding games to come in the near future. I'm from the outside of the U.S and currently in Asia so I guess that also gives an info. about the warranty which I'm also aware and concerns me a little bit but as long as it gives me a raw beastly power then I'm all great for that.

Looks good.
-I would go for at least 12GB or RAM since it's really not expensive.
-You do know the 680m is due to be replaced shortly by the 780m which should bring 20%+ in performance?
-I'd skip the Stealth Wrap and use the money for and SSD which is one of the biggest performance boosts you'll get.
-And finally, don't forget the $50 discount!
As a side note, did thie price of the NP9370 jump up $100 in the past week? Last week, I was looking at getting one and the base price was $1570 at Xotic and LPC. Now, it's $1667... I really think this jump largely effaces the NP9370's value proposition vs. the competion. -
Thank you for you very quick and honest response! I didn't know that there will be a new upcoming graphics card and I could wait for that! Second, I could drop the Stealth Wrap and go for SSD but which one exactly should I get? I haven't used SSD before so please bear with me.
32GB Crucial M4 mSATA SSD - Preconfigured for Intel SRT ( Smart Response Technology )

256GB Crucial M4 mSATA SSD - Preconfigured as an OS Drive ( Operating System – Drive C: )

240GB Intel 525 Series mSATA SSD - Preconfigured for Intel SRT ( Smart Response Technology )

And Yes! I will not forget about the $50 +rep for you again thank you for the reminder. Lastly, I guess they did increased their price last week! -
it all depends on your budget.
my crucial m4 512gb boots up and im on the forum within 12 seconds. spindle drives can vary from 25-45 seconds.
as your going for a 17" you could get 2 smaller ssd's or just one for now and then update at a later stage.
the samsung pro 840 have the fastest read/write speed but my crucial is certainly no slouch.
haswell processors will be out within (we hope) the next 2 months and also new graphics cards but the 680 is still a really great card. -
I agree with harmattan's suggestions, except note below:
- 8GB RAM is fine for now, easy to upgrade later but still inexpensive to go with 16GB if you're not on a strict budget, then get it now
- Absolutely get an SSD. Samsung 840 Pro or Crucial M500 256GB + 750GB HDD. Or even a Crucial M4 256GB mSATA SSD.
- Warranty is a concern, but possibly work with Mythlogic and buy from them as they may offer an international warranty. System may cost a little more but they also build and warrant their own machines
- I would really wait another month if you can, and get the 780m. Also note that future MXM GPU's may or may not be compatible. There's no guarantee, so just understand that what you buy now may be the best performing components the system can run
- I would consider the Intel 6230 Wi-Fi card over the Bigfoot Killer Wi-fi. While it can reduce pings, there's also problems with drivers it seems. But that may have all been resolved in the last year.
All I can say is if you want a powerful portable gaming machine to last you four years, don't skimp on the components. Fastest GPU, mid-grade CPU is fine (i7-3740QM), SSD. -
Any of those are good (I'd go at least 120GB so you can keep some commonly-accessed applications on it instead of your HDD). You might actually want to get and SSD separately, however, and install your OS on it as you may save some money. I'm assuming you already have an OS since you're not including one in the order, so should be easy to install it on the SSD once you get the laptop.
If you haven't used an SSD before, you'll be very happy with the boost in startup and initializing applications. -
EDIT:
I didn't know there are two more replies before I've posted this.
@HTWingNut
Just in case if cannot wait for the new graphics card...should I get the Dual SLI GTX680ms? I never used Overclock before should I get it?
@harmattan
I should probably get an SSD when I buy a new laptop since my last Seagate 250GB HDD got messed up but it serves me well for at least 3 years so I've replaced it with just 125GB and that sucks since I saved alot of stuff. -

Skip the mSATA options you listed and go for a SSD in the primary bay. You'll get full SATA III speed when doing so, the mSATA slot is just SATA II so with an SSD you'll have double the speed. If you've decided to wait for new hard ware we may see full SATA III support on the mSATA slots as well once they come out. Just gotta wait and see on that.
-
Yes get SLI GTX 680m.
Go with 240-256GB SSD minimum. Many SSD's smaller than that suffer performance penalty. If you're willing to stretch your budget, the Crucial M500 960GB SSD should be back in stock any day now, and should cost $600US. That would be the best of all worlds. But if you're in a time pinch then stick with a Samsung Pro or Crucial M500 256GB.
Also Haswell chipset *should* support up to 4 SATA III ports, possibly 6, so even mSATA drives won't suffer some performance penalty. But in all honesty, regarding performance penalty between SATA II and III it's only for large sequential writes, as in copying large GB files on the same SSD or between SSD's. The 128GB and smaller SSD's typcially suffer performance for ALL file size reads and writes. -
@Hustsady
I can wait for that since I'll be placing my order say for about 5 months or earlier. Do you guys have any orders for Sager/Clevo that comes from Asian countries? -
