I received the new Sager NP9377 from LPC-Digital with SLI 880m. Here's an unboxing and overview video for you. Typical amateur quality camera work but hope it gives enough detail for those interested in buying. Full review coming soon!

Dang someone caved in the subwoofer cone

Seems like they redesigned the master GPU heatsink and finally patched up those ridiculous voids with some foam. I might buy an 880M heatsink and see if the temps show improvement. Also, you were probably thinking of the P370EM, which indeed had a third heatpipe from the CPU heatsink that shared a fan with the slave GPU.

I think I need to teach my son how to hold the camera. Maybe these videos will turn out better, lol.

There was great outcry at that but actually it was the better design. People just flip out at shared fans though.

Well remember when I tried the P370EM heatsinks in my P370SM a while back? The CPU temps dropped 10C, but that 10C got transferred to the slave GPU. Now, part of the problem was because the 2-piece P370EM slave GPU heatsink was designed poorly and left a void so huge between the fan and the side closer to the CPU, that I could literally poke my pinkie in there. When I patched up that void with some foil tape as best as I could, the slave GPU temps dropped by about 2-3C.

Switching to liquid ultra provided the same amount of thermal benefit as the 3-pipe P370EM heatsink, but without extra heat on the slave GPU. I've since switched back to the P370SM CPU heatsink. But, given a proper design, the 3-pipe heatsink used in conjunction with liquid ultra would truly do wonders for CPU thermals.

Yes the cpu is thermally limited to 3.9ghz ish for proper loading.

With the shared heatsink properly fitted that would go to around 4.1ghz.

And if you hook it up to an external monitor and pop the back off, you could probably push 4.3 GHz. :D

just received my unit 2 days ago, sager np9377-S with 880m SLI, and i noticed a lot of headroom improvement in metro last light with all settings maxed except AA on 2x only, also the 120hz screen has a noticeable fps growth on it, i compared it head to head with my brother's AW m18x with 580m SLI (i know, its a big difference)

looking forward for your review HTwingnut, for now im still currently installing games and some win 8.1 setups

EDIT : did a battery boost test, played nba 2k14 in 30 mins until i reached a 40% remaining, brightness in tolerable vision and in power saving mode, so far this machine is living on my expectations, in nvidia battery boost frames are capped to 30, but you can increase it until 50 frames.

i just received this same notebook (sans the SLi) 4 days ago and my subwoofer is also not working right out of the box (it appears undamaged)! :( i called Sager and was amazed that their "tech support" picked up right away, but they were completely unable to help me, other than saying "well, that doesn't come with a subwoofer; it is only a 2 channel sound system."

What?!?!!! hmmm, yep, looking back on their website, it specs out speakers AND a SUBWOOFER; but further looking into the Windows playback devices, the Realtek HD Audio Manager, and the Soundblaster X-Fi MB3 program, there appears to be no option for 2.1 sound (stereo plus subwoofer)?!? There is stereo, quadrophonic, 5.1 and 7.1; on all settings none of them get the subwoofer working... i'm getting very dissatisfied!

Their tech support guy patched me to his supervisor who knew nothing more than the first guy, but promised to check into it... 4 days later i have no response (but, part of the was the weekend... so, maybe...).

i purchased this system through Xoticpc.com and left a voicemail message for the gal who had processed my order, but she has not gotten back to me either (again, part of that was over the weekend).

Hoping tomorrow yields more results than "that's not actually a "sub-woofer" it's just a third speaker" ... oh, and what type of sound system do i register a 3 speaker - no subwoofer soundsystem as?

The subwoofer won't show up in any of the software on any configuration. Pretty much the only way to test it is to change the "Crossover Frequency" from say 80 Hz to over 500 Hz in X-Fi MB3, then play the test track in the software and see if you can hear any difference. Failing that, put your ear right up against the subwoofer and see if it's outputting any sound. As a measure of last resort, open up the keyboard, disconnect the speaker cable, and see if any sound would come out of the subwoofer.

You might also want to check to make sure the subwoofer power cord hasn't come loose. The connector is under the wifi card.

Do you have any issues running games at 120Hz? I can run desktop at 120Hz but with anything above 60Hz screen always blanks.

    Hi!

I am about to order this from XoticPC. Can you please tell me how audible the fans are while idling, and just surfing the net and office tasks? I dont want to hear it whirring on my desk in the office.

    Thank You!

I love how you show the minor differences in size! People are so uppity about 17in and say 15in are so much more mobile when in truth they are not. To get a significant difference one has to go 14in or smaller, yet people rant and rave about 15in models being so much more portable. I laugh at these people.

This is good to know. I am getting my first 17" in the next couple of weeks. (Customization takes a bit...) I have a Dell M4500 now and it's not a light weight machine so I figure the NP8278 shouldn't be too much of a jump up.

Yeah the difference is very small between 15 and 17in and in his video above you can see just how small it really is. I too am getting a sager from a dell precision and Im hoping the sager can take the abuse my precision has.

We are talking size not weight. But yes the alienwar 14 does weigh alot for a 14in but its also built like a tank.

I ordered mine with just a single 2.5" HDD, do I need any additional parts (cage/screws/etc.) that may not be included to add in the second 2.5" SSD that i have?

Always been an Ati/AMD GPU kind of guy, so we will see how this puppy turns out.

The value in that setup per $ is going to be very good with the cheap 4810MQ and dual m290x cards, a review would be good.

in 60hz there's no problem, the flickering is only occasional, the first time i run DMC 5 and DS 3, there is flickering only on the main menu, but what i did is to did some .net framework and dx 11 updates, now until yesterday, i didn't experienced flickering at all at those games, honestly both of them became solid :) so on stock and vanilla drivers, if all are updated after starting out of the box, there posed no problem at all, and all of these are vanilla drivers, no modification i made so far, all on stock clocks and its a big boost gaming experience both on gaming in SLI and screen improvement

update : its my first time to own a 120hz screen, and having a head to head observation with the 60hz screen on my old alienware which my brother has now, there is a significant frame bump. those m18x 580m sli are running at mature drivers. fps are more smooth and these 880m SLI cards do deliver.

battery is really nice, even watching hd movies in two hours tops my laptop went from full charge to low batter 5%, all on power saving mode, screen brightness only 2 notches, and backlit keyboard disabled, normal use on low settings is like 2 hours tops on battery

battery boost i think i played 45 mins of nba 2k14 in power saving mode and backlit disabled i had it capped at 30fps, i think this battery boost is also available on the other 800m cards playing at a single gpu without connecting the AC cord

audio is also one good thing, the xfi software tops up of the type of speakers of what i have owned before

owning the clevo the first time, im satisfied with the keyboard and lighting effects, its more detailed and design was made only what is necessary to compact the laptop in 17 inches, sure its not as flashy as m18x, but honestly it stands out

overall the 9377-S exceeded my expectations, specially switching from aw m18x to sager, also a rookie of windows 8, i can see how smooth the slide transitions in my laptop, i can game on battery at a decent fps, type on a chicklet keyboard type, plug and play in SLI enabled. im still getting used to windows 8 but as time goes im finding it much easier especially with the internet interface that i needed at work.

im only a laptop amateur, honestly i don't bench or if you guys ask me to give you figures i don't even know how to, but i can even notice a slight drag or fps drop, simple observations of heating, fan noise etc is what i can give you, from a stock clocker's point of view and marketing aside, this is one heck of a beast, i didn't owned a 680m or 780m, but from 580m SLI to 880m SLI, it is a massive boost overall. games are served like breakfast.

Packaged well, not as neat as openning an alienware but still double boxed and no worries from me. Will be posting an unboxing/quick run down of the laptop here very soon. Hoping for later today.

Hey guys , so gonna place my order soon with powernotebooks as usual.
    Sager np9377-s
    880m sli - 4810 - 16gb - 120gb samsung evo for OS - 480gb crucial m5 msata for games - 2x1tb 7200 rpm-
Blu ray writer - Bigfoot killer network .
Am stuck at screen options .... With my previous purchase I had the 90% gamut glossy screen with my sager np9370 , colors are super vivid and brightness is sick but then it's way toooo much colors ,always thought it needed calibration , an option powernotebooks don't offer tho.my brother asked me for the laptop so gave it to him , thus ordering this now.
i have never used a matte screen in my life will the 72% gamut and 120hz be very bright ?
if we wanna do a comparison with the glossy 90% where would it stand ?
Any reviews yet in the matte 72% (120hz) used in this machine ?
Heard people with issues on the 120hz with gaming ? Any more Input on that would be appreciated.
Is the keyboard on np9377 the exact same used in np9370 ?
My sager np9370 had heat issues with one of the 7970m's . How is this machine dealing up with
    The dual 880m's ?
Your Inputs and suggestions , thanks

hey Moudine, the 9377-S is a heck of a machine, my default display is 120hz matte, its not as vibrant as the glossy screen, but gaming on daylight room is really a nice experience, honestly regardless of the lighting the screen is vivid for me

if you prefer on gaming on a dark room, you may prefer the glossy type, but if you're gaming whenever its dark or light, matte is the way to go, although the glossy type is more vibrant and viewing angles are good

120hz gaming imo in my eye has a significant boost over the 60hz, provided that you have a dominant gpu like the 880m or 880m sli, windows 8 transition is more fluid, demanding games are a piece of cake in sli

the cooling capacity of the 880ms are superb, fans are awfully quiet and when the fan go up the noise is tolerable not like jet revving up like crazy

also there's a review of HTwinghut for np9377, the 880m is just a rebrand of a 780m, just higher clocks and more vram memory which i have no idea why is it that much

in a 120hz screen at SLI by the first two days of use of my laptop, i did experienced vertical screen tearing on some games like Dead space 3 and RE 6, but after updating some microsoft framework etc, it became normal, although i did had a vertical tearing yesterday on RE 6 again, i just restarted the laptop and the next play its gone, i know its not supposed to have vertical tearing whatsoever, but the 880m drivers are still immature at the moment, hopefully they will give us better driver support, i have seen only beta updates in nvidia

i upgraded from 580m sli before that is already 2 years from me and i gave it to my brother, from 580m to 880m, its a big boost overall

The "s" models are higher spec to beigin with. Since you are going for 880M SLI it would be more cost effective to go with the S model.

What is the difference between 120Hz screen and the standard screen? Will it worth the upgrade 120Hz, or should I take the standard screen one? (it's free upgradable though on NP9377-S.

The standard screen is a 60hz. A 120hz screens looks more fluid. There are also games which will cap your FPS to sync with the screen hz, the 120hz can then do 120FPS given the hardware will support it on that game.

Where can you get this laptop with a 120Hz panel?

It's becoming less common due to the lack of 9xx series 3d licencing, but you can always try overclocking the standard panel.

Is it a TN panel or an IPS panel? I'm not even sure which one I want. TN is supposed to be better for gaming but I'd rather have the better color accuracy in IPS. I also heard that IPS lag isn't a big deal for gaming. How bad is it?

The 120Hz pannel is TN... There is no 120Hz mobile IPS pannel.. Possibly be there in Q4 2015 or Q1/Q2 2016...
