Hi, i'd like to know how the Sager NP9570 / Clevo P570WM fairs as a desktop replacement. does anyone here own one and use it for architectural design and rendering (Building Information Modeling and Rendering, REVIT Architecture)?
Im also wondering how far the 4930k can be overclocked without the aid of an external cooling system. Im assuming that with the current haswell architecture of the chip it might run quite cool. My current system is a sager np8662 with qx9300 and it's starting to struggle with the amount of work i do, even if over clocked to 3.7 But i have external cooling. Im thinking of investing in a 6 core cpu (12 threads) but i don't know if it's good long term solution with the NP9570. I work at home but i bring my laptop during meetings, and it's always plugged to the outlet. My cinebench score for the [email protected] ghz is 4.22 and saw the 4960x to be 11.23 at stock speeds. That is just amazing. The 4930k could be close to that. The rendering is usually what kills it, the software i use still doesn't use gpu rendering so even my gtx260m is still under utilized. I would love to have a desktop replacement system with that cpu, and i'd be willing to invest on it. Price to performance, it's the best in the lineup, nothing comes close.
And does anyone if the chassis will be upgraded soon? it seems quite dated already, but that doesn't really bother me if i need the computing power. Im just wondering if anyone out there is using a similar system for the same use, and how does it fair so far? I'd be happy to hear your inputs. Being in the Philippines is also a problem for me because i'd have to import the system and it would be difficult dealing with tech support and warranties. Is the P570WM as robust as the M860etu? A 4k display in the next generation systems would be something i'd look forward to, does anyone know if that's coming soon also?

Revit has actually started taking more advantage of GPU acceleration. Is it your version specifically that doesn't support it?
You'll no doubt benefit from a more powerful CPU but getting a nice GPU as well will be pretty important. For Autodesk applications like Revit the quadro are ideal and what they recommend, but are pretty pricey. The K5100m is the Quadro supports and I've sold a few machines with it configured and heard back it does great for them.
I haven't heard word on rumors for a replacement for the chassis as of yet. I think they may be trying to get one more year out of it, nothing wrong with the chassis just needs hardware revisions to support new tech. Seeing 4k on this thing though would be pretty sweet. -
HI Derek, thanks for replying, Im using Revit 2013 which does support GPU acceleration but it still doesn't support GPU rendering (like in 3DS max, Maya, etc). For 3D modelling the Quadro would help but i'm inclined to just get a gtx 770 and just upgrade later on to a quadro card ( a k3000m). The factor for determining modeling speed particularly in Revit is the single core speed but for final rendering the more high speed cores you have the faster the output. Jut to give you a perspective on the rendering time i consume, last week i spent more than 48 hours rendering 60 images, im thinking if i was able to render with the 4930k it would have taken me less than half the time.

I'v just started practicing privately so i have to manage my investments carefully particularly with expensive equipment. A good workstation is part of the core of the functionality of an architect, and it's quite a determinant when trying to meet tight deadlines. A good cost-effective mobile workstation will be a big help in my practice.
Another question would be, when will the p570wm need need the 2nd power brick, is that just for SLI? will the quadro card require a 2nd PSU? Im also concerned about cooling while on the go, my current setup has the m860tu cover removed with 2 120mm 12v fans blowing. This limits my portability significantly. Being 130w how much heat would an overclocked 4930k produce? Can the cooling system handle it?
If the 3k screens aren't out yet, i'll probably just emulate 4k custom resolution on a 120hz full hd screen, could this be doable in the p570?

The cooling system runs my 4930k at reasonable temperatures full stress test load at 4.3ghz.
