    Sager Notebooks Dealer Guide
    By: ChazMan421

Interested in purchasing a Sager notebook, or just need a little direction on where to go? The purpose of this informational article is to provide a detailed listing of the Sager notebook dealers which are currently in the United States. I have listed the most common stores below.

DiscountLaptops, instead of offering the typical extended warranty by Phillips-Magnavox, provide their own, due to complications and dissatisfaction with Phillips. They are members of the Nevada Better Business Bureau, and have been in business since 1996. When you pay with cash, you are eligible for a 2.5% discount off of your order. With one of the highest possible ratings on ResellerRatings, they are a very attractive choice for the individual seeking a quality custom-built notebook, all backed with superb customer support.

With one of the highest ratings of any dealer on ResellerRatings, PowerNotebooks offers some of the best service, technical support, and products in the industry. Founded in 1999, PowerNotebooks also offers, in addition to Sager, notebooks built-on Asus, Compal, and Quanta. If you purchase your notebook with cash, you are eligible for a 2.5% discount on your order. PowerNotebooks also has its own forum. Link to Forums.

Sager – typically, most people who buy a Sager notebook would buy it from a dealer. I included them in this article, because they are the parent company after all, and deserve credit for selling, and most of all, marketing Sager notebooks. The reasons for that many flock to dealers is that with a dealer, the buying experience is more personalized, and you often get superior customer service. However, there is nothing wrong with ordering direct, and placing your custom order is very easy, thanks to a well-designed website. Given a choice though, I would stick with a dealer for the reasons I mentioned - better buying experience.

Founded in 1999, Xotic PC not only offers custom Sager notebooks, but also Motion TabletPCs, Durabooks, built-on Asus, Quanta, and Compal notebooks, in addition to several other brands and ODMs. Desktop systems are also available. All in all, they are an uncommonly diverse dealer, with a well thought-out website, top notch service, and high quality products.

XoticPC has recently recieved a lot of positive feedback around the forums. They are highly recommended for great service and accomodation.

Conclusion: Out of all the dealers I have written about, you can't go wrong with any of them. Check ResellerRatings.com to see what customers think of each dealer - that way, you can know how the store really is.

I hope that my article provided helpful information regarding dealers.

Comments are always welcome, and if you have purchased a notebook from any of these dealers, it would be very nice to hear your experience!

    Regards,

    Excellent resource, Chaz.
Since you're already a moderator, give yourself a gold star! :)

You might even want to cross-link this to the Botique forum, at least... lots of good info on the dealers here.

I thought I read somewhere PCTorque also offers their own extended warranty, not Phillips. Is this true, or is it through some third party?

nice, concise breakdown Chaz. Everyone, should pay special attention to the reseller ratings Chaz linked to -- number of reviews and positive feedback are important.

    Thanks Chazman,

I've fired off emails to all the ones you listed. DiscountLaptops replied to say they ship to uk. To quote him
I think I'm right in believing that longhorn and vista and future M$ OS's will support more than 3GB - just not certain whether I should ante-up for the extra gb now....

I'll have a look at the 9750 - I think the 9890 (need to check at work again, where I saved those configs) looked pretty good. Anyone know of sites that will discuss things like heating, battery life for the maxed-out level DCR notepads?

Actually the current MS OS will support 4GB of memory, but the Intel chipset won't. The Intel chipset will only support up to about 2.8GB, so there is where the limitation lies.

Closer to the theme of this thread on Sager dealers, I want to give high-fives to Sager reseller XoticPC for the fine purchasing experience and excellent product I received from them. It was three weeks ago today that I received my np9750. With the exception of a couple of bumps in the break-in road, due mostly to my own ignorance, the computer is an absolute joy. But the product review is for another thread--this one is for XoticPC.

Xoticpc was the first of three or four resellers to respond to an initial email query I sent to all of them at once about the desktop replacement notebook I was interested in purchasing. My message went to them on a Saturday afternoon, and Justin at XoticPC responded on Sunday. He also responded within 2-4 hours of each of my subsequent questions, up to the point of making the purchase. I posed some direct, "hard customer" type questions about the quality of product and quality of service that could be expected from XoticPC. Responses were prompt, cordial, and to the point. I knew quickly that I wanted to do business with this company, even after the others responded to the initial query (as much as three to four days later).

But there was one hurdle--pricing. The configuration I wished to purchase was priced higher at XoticPC than at the other resellers considered. When I noted this difference, Justin asked to see the competing price breakdowns. I sent them, and he immediately dropped his price reasonably below the others. Based on his commitement, I was willing to make one, too.

My order was shipped on a Friday, two days after the purchase was made on a Wednesday. It arrived at my door on the sixth day, Tuesday. Had I placed the order on a Monday, I believe it would have arrived on Thursday or Friday. UPS tracking from Sager HQ in California to my front door was accurate and sufficiently updated. The product was solidly and doubly boxed, and well wrapped. The components and configuration were exactly as I ordered. Everything about it worked just fine out of the box, and it has run beautifully ever since. I received a follow-up telephone call from Justin two days later. He wanted to know about the arrival and its condition and my impressions. I fear that I was slightly off-putting to him because I wanted more time to break-in the new computer before commenting on it, but he was again cordial and very understanding, unassuming, and pressed not at all. In response to one of my pre-purchase email queries, Justin affirmed that future interactions and service would be of the same quality as those initial ones. The follow-up call served as evidence of that promise.

A day or two after the product had already shipped, I decided to purchase an extended warranty. This was no problem, and I had the warranty in place before the shipment arrived. However, although I had requested an invoice for the warranty the day it was purchased, I did not receive it until I made another request two weeks later. This is the only blemish in an otherwise stellar experience with XoticPC on this purchase; and I believe it was due to simple oversight, nothing untoward or irresponsible. It certainly is no reason to refrain from considering this company again in the future.

ChazMan provides a positive description of XoticPC at the top of this thread. But it surprises me that this company is not more visible and more frequently referenced in some of the notebook computer forums. I will do my part to talk them up in discussions of notebook computer resellers. For anyone interested in custom notebook computer purchases, especially in the Sager line, I wholeheartedly and unhesitatingly recommend XoticPC.

As of tonite, May 16, 2006, PCTorque will no longer be taking in new Sager Laptop orders :(

I am off to DiscountLaptops.com to buy my Sager 5760 because tehy both have an Extended Warranty & ADP.
Also have a very high rating from Resellerratings.com.
