Ok so I placed an order at Xoticpc and just received my new P9150 last night after about 3 weeks of waiting. I was super excited to try it out.

I ordered on 9-15-2012 and received it on 10-5-2012. Paid over 2100 for my super awesome new toy and....this is what I see when I turn it on.

The first two pictures were taken at night. One from the left side and one from the right side. Now, if I'm more than 5 degrees on the left side, the black light bleeding is terrible. Half of my screen is grayed out. On the other side however, the viewing angle is good.

Now, the next day I turn on my computer and the problem is still there and If I have to say, it's gotten more pronounced.

What do you all think? This is with the upgraded 95% gamut matte screen.

I emailed xoticpc but, unfortunately they are not open during the weekends (got my laptop on Friday and today is Saturday). Earliest that I can expect a response is Monday.

I've had other gaming laptops before and they all had beautiful screens. I owned an Asus g53, Lenovo Y580 and the screens did not have this back light bleed problem.

My new laptop an Asus g55 has a beautiful screen as well. But my new Sager p9150 does not have a comparable screen even though the laptop is probably twice as expensive as the other laptops I have owned or currently have.

I'm hoping this isn't normal and I can get a different screen. What do you guys think? Xoticpc has been good to me so far and they have a reputation for great customer service so I hope they'll be able to help me out here.

Just ranting because I died a little when my new computer bled out on me :(

I too suffer from the same issue, 95% gamut matte display and i only just got the laptop on friday, apart from that everything is schmick. Did you get a reply on the situation? I am planning on sending mine back to get a replacement.

can anyone else share whether or not they have this issue? My guy says its a common issue with TN panels, but they all cant be like this?

That's bull. Unless you're paying out the for a screen, you're more than likely to get a TN panel. And out of all the displays you've used before, have you had anything like what you're seeing on my screen (and yours too if you have the same problem).

Refer to this link to see the other people who have recently gotten their laptop and have the same problem as us.

Maybe it was a bad shipment of LCDs?

hahaha I agree mate, there are so many people on this forum running the same screen.

Yeah had a look at that link, didn't actually know it was quite a recent discussion. Definitely think it was a bad batch of LCD's too.

I'm so raging right now. I'm going to call xoticpc tomorrow. I hope I get a happy ending. I love my new laptop aside from the screen (ironic since it was a somewhat pricey upgrade).

Sorry to hear about the screen bleeding. Our service department should be getting back to you soon. Since that screen is installed directly at Sager there shouldnt be a problem with setting up the repair to go to them directly instead of to us making it a much quicker return.

But don't you guys see those things when testing? (for the retailers, stores...)

Hutsady, how many matte screens have you seen until now with this problem?

Is there also a chance to receive one stock matte screen (not the 95% gamut upgrade, but STOCK one) with this problem?

ps: My W110ER is estimated to arrive this week or max, next week. I would really be very, very, very disappointed if mine also have same problems. Hope you guys can have the situation fixed soon too!

I haven't seen any personally with this problem. The two I've heard of with any issues are the two that were mentioned here recently and they were on the NP9150 screens.

    Update!

Was going to be in LA for business today so I called Sager and they told me it was alright to bring the laptop in.

Brought in the laptop and the person who helped me took care of everything. Said they'll replace the screen and make sure it's absolutely perfect before sending it back to me. Should arrive by Thursday at the latest. The folks from Sager were very professional. They didn't try to blame the screen on anything and will ship it back free.

Now I'll eagerly await my new(new'ish?) laptop!

I brought this up way back last year with my P150HM. Reseller told me Sager told them it was normal. Lol.

The technical term for this is Mura. Hours of research pointed me to the direction that LCDs which exhibit such behaviour do not have the different layers being assembled with even pressure throughout the process.

Thanks mate! I'll let you know how it goes. The rep at Sager told me that they'll make sure my screen is absolutely perfect before sending it back to me.

I'm itching to get it back soooo much. This asus g55vw is not cutting it for me anymore after experiencing the sleek, humble look and ultra performance of my sager.

I'm the guy who posted about this problem too (someone linked you to my post). Like you said, mine wasn't as bad, but noticeable when viewed from the right side on a dark screen. Kinda glad I'm not the only one with this problem! Lol I just sent mine in on Tuesday. My only complaint is that it took FOREVER to set up an RMA. Emails back and forth took about a week, which in my opinion, is somewhat slow (I should have just called or something lol). Also like you said, if I'm going to pay a massive amount of money for a laptop, it better be damn near perfect! I already had to have my keyboard replaced... I mean I love the laptop, but come on Sager! Sorry for that little rant.... Glad to hear everything is looking good on your screen! Hopefully mine will be perfect when it comes back who knows when... hopefully sometime next week!

Cool, time for me to start grilling Sager about the double standards.

    Mine:

    Sager's stand a year ago:

    "Hi YueHao,

Thanks for your update about your replacement screen. We have forwarded your pictures to Sager.

Most lcd screens have backlit breeding/leakage. According to Allen, this is not considered a problem.

    Customer Service and Support

    Carina Too"

Edit: At the same time, kudos to the Sager of today who is willing to make it right to customers. Big thumbs up here from me

Got my one back yesterday afternoon :D looks heaps better although I have notice a tad bit of screen persistence (appears to be), where it would burn red for a second and go, I can notice it when it click start then click away. Can anyone tell me if they have this issue or is there a fix? Otherwise off it goes again :(

kingyr, that's red ghosting. It's a defect (look back on some threads a year ago). There is no fix. Looks like Sager and Co have yet to learn from their mistakes. The Lenovo W520 uses the exact same panel and I have personally asked around in the Lenovo forums a year ago and not one of them ever had such issues. B grade panels for Sager then? Could be a prime example of parts binning, with the larger companies like Lenovo being able to select the better A grade panels.

So much for the in depth extensive testing before shipping out that is so highly touted about on their website:
"Every component of a Sager PC is checked, then rechecked, to ensure system integrity. Then each computer is tested for a full 96 hours, in two separate procedures, to certify system excellence. Sager's state-of-the-art testing facility ensures that your portable PC will perform to Sager standards."

My first screen: MS Paint Trail - YouTube and Full Screen Colour Cycle.MOV - YouTube

Makes you wonder if they even boot up the comp in the first place, it's so glaringly obvious with regards to the red persistence.

On a side note, Sager has replied this to my backlight bleed regarding the angle which I took my backlight bleed photos from:

"From 45 degrees angle, it is way off the center axle. There is no way to ask the manufacturer to replace the screen.

    Allen Zhang
    Sager tech support
    1-800-741-2219
    1-626-964-4849"

To put it simply, on a small screen such as this, a 45 degrees viewpoint is very possible when you have a few friends over to watch a movie.

So no replacement for me - just as well, they probably would have replaced my screen with one with the red ghosting, or a dead pixel, or a scratched screen.

If I were you, I would send back the laptop again to have the screen replaced under warranty. Be firm on this, and ask for close-up photos and videos of the screen from varying angles before they ship the laptop back.

I would also take a boxing up video of my laptop before sending it off, mine came back with the rubber finish on the trackpack slightly worn through at a corner (it went back because the motherboard died). Just in case they damage your laptop and any dispute arises.

Best of luck, you deserve a properly working laptop which you paid in full for. You didn't short-change Sager for anything, and neither should they short-change you on the product that they were supposed to deliever.

Nothing worse than sending it back a second time... waited 2 weeks for the thing to get built and sent, then 2 days after RMA, then 3-4 days after another RMA. Killing me :(

Thank you very much for the info though, i did try fix it the other day but that was a no go. I also just tried moving the mouse as you did in the video and yup the trail is there and as yours its only in a certain section of the screen. I will send my supplier a video of mine and yours too. With its current run on other issues it looks like i'll have to send it back.

Mate I would definitely try hit them up to replace that, if you are unhappy with it and still have warranty I don't see what the problem is with a replacement and it may be fine at a 45deg viewing angle but at the same time it doesn't take much to start noticing the bleed.

I will definitely take your advice on board and good luck with getting that screen replaced, just keep at it! We didn't fork out an extra $2,000+ for dud parts... well I hope i didn't anyway lol!

Yeah I feel you, DOA twice is really a kill-joy. :(

The screen in the video was my original, the one with the backlight bleed is a replacement.

All the best to getting a perfect laptop on the third try, third times the charm anyway right :)

When the Sager works well, it really is a beautiful laptop, and I can understand the raves of people who are getting a well-built unit right out of the box on the first try.

I was looking on ebay for replacement screens prior to Sager replacing mine (in case they didnt) and it didnt seem too hard. The screens were not very pricey either 100-300. The process involved taking off like 10 screws total and removing a pin connector.

Just a thought if you're unhappy enough with your screen to blow another few hundred bucks. Me? I got my screen replaced by Sager but if they hadnt done that, I would've gotten another screen off ebay as well as getting an external monitor for when I'm at work heh.

Good luck guys. I know it's frustrating spending 2k on a laptop and ending up with a screen you can't even stand.
