    Hi all,
I'd like your opinions regarding my situation. I purchased a gaming laptop from powernotebooks more than a year ago. It'd been working great until it passed its warranty time. One day, when I was reading my assignment on my laptop ( and playing web game ), the VGA driver stopped working and then recovered successfully. I restarted it and it worked for 2 hours before the graphics card stopped working permanently. I tried everything I could (even re-installing windows) but nothing worked. I asked for RMA and they gave me shortly after that. I sent the laptop in and here is the quote from Sager technician :
    1. Replace the AMD RADEON HD 6990M W/2G is $495.
or can upgrade to 7970m w/2g $470 but 7970m card will NOT support HDMI
    port.
    2. hard disk drive had 8 errors if like to replace the 500 GB is $75 or 750
    GB $85.
    3. Labor $95
So, I've read quite a lot of "horror" stories regarding Sager service and frankly, I'm not sure if I should pay 500 to get it fixed (I was an idiot not to get extended warranty since I blindly trusted their products) or just get a new one since I don't want to pay them that much and then end up not getting my laptop fixed properly).
So, Should I go ahead and pay them and pray that they won't mess thing up ? I'm really disappointed to see my laptop broke even though I've been taking very good care of it.
    Thank you

why dont you fix it yourself? you can find a card and drive for cheaper, and no labour fee charges, also faster since no annoying shipping time

In that case I would go ahead and buy a new one, now is a good time to buy since it's gonna be a while until the next gen CPUs and GPUs are coming out. And I would not bother with the 7970M, if you can afford it, get by all means a 680M or a 675MX. Much less hassle + OCing potential is great.

If I could, I wouldn't have to send it back to Sager, would I. Besides, I'm not familiar with laptop parts , thus I don't want to mess with it myself. I really need opinions from people who had experience with Sager service before.
