Out of curiosity, what don't you like about the NP9260/61's hard drive size? You can get up to 3 250 GB drives, or as few as 1 80 GB drives.

I may be biased from working with Sager resellers for so long, but I know I will buy a Sager if I can ever afford a high-performance notebook.

I have not bought any laptop for a long time. The laptop i am using right now is a presario 2580 US pentium 4. I want to get a laptop to able to play games. The reason is that i rarely play games on desktop. I am on the move most of the time. I use my laptop more than my desktop.

You would have to give a Sager reseller like XoticPC or PowerNotebooks a look to see what you could configure in your budget. You can visit their websites or give them a call.

The 7950 can't use DirectX 10, but it is a much more powerful card than the 8700M. It boils down to which is more important: a higher framerate or DirectX 10.

From moving out of toshiba forums to sager forums. I now i want to buy a sager due to the upgreadability of the video card. I been pondering on the two version they have at xoticpc.com Sager 9261 and Sager NP5790. What do you guys recommend. I have a Budget of 2500.00 I want to fit everything this budget for taxes and shipping and handling. I am Located IN Los Angeles, CA. I will be using it for gaming. I will be playing BF2, Doom 3, Crysis, Bioshock, gears of wars and other games. I don't really play at max. I let the computer choose the best setting for me on graphics. But at least it should be decent. Thanks.

Buying any notebook and planning to upgrade the video card is a risky proposition. I would say never plan to upgrade the video card for the life of the notebook, because a lot of times it simply doesn't happen. I have two examples - one, my Sager NP5320 has a removable and modular video card but it never got a newer model so I couldn't upgrade, and two the old Clevo D900T had an upgradeable video card but a newer motherboard revision and power brick were needed to do it, so that was not very practical. You never know what is going to happen.

Based on what you told us I'd recommend the NP5791 as long as you do not mind the size/weight.

Is the 5791 good for gaming at least. What about 9261 which it looks like xoticpc is promoting on there site. I am just asking question before i make up my mind on buying the laptop. I have Vista enterprise and also xp pro. from the university so the OS is not a problem.

SLI gives a significant performance improvement, but whether you'd NOTICE it or not depends on what games you're planning on playing. If you're already running at 35-40 FPS with a single card, you're not really going to notice anything higher. If you're running at 30 or below, you'll notice :D. So it really depends on what games you want to play.

Like Chaz said there is no way to know if an upgrade will ever come out for the systems with upgradeable graphic slots, so you should base your decision on the other parts of the system first and foremost.

The main differences between the the 5791, 9261, and x205-sli systems are the weight and battery life. All three are good gaming notebooks, so the main thing you'd need to decide when debating between the three is how portable do you want it to be?

    Lightest to Heaviest:
    5791 (~8.5 lbs)
    x205 (~9.5 lbs)
    9261 (~11 lbs)

    Battery life most to least:
    5791 (2-3 hours)
    x205 and 9261 (1-2 hours)

    Positives with the Sagers:
Some resellers offer lifetime tech support and customer service.
Two versions of Windows (64bit and 32bit) provided with the system. (Since you all ready have an OS this will not matter).
Many configuration options available when purchasing.
Sager and their resellers (like XoticPc and PowerNotebooks) are easy to reach.

    Positives with the Toshiba:
    Dual function touchpad
    HD-DVD drive
Sli system lighter than the 9261

I have owned a couple of toshibas and they are decent laptops. But I decided to go with 9261 and I am much happier. The screen is amazing in comparision to the the toshiba and the HD options were better. I could also upgrade the ram easier and I could do the video in steps if I chose to. In the end I did it all at once but it could be done in steps. I think the sager is better bulit so far and uses better base components than the pre-packaged systems. There should also be 1 maybe two CPU upgrades at a later time streching the system life by a year or two. I just didn't want to by a laptop every six months or a year.

Amazon has the X205-SLI3 17 for 2379 with free shipping and handling if your looking to keep it under 2,500 for a sli note can see you doing better than than .the sager 9261 is a good machine but for higher resolution and sli you are talking more like 3,000 .

the toshiba weighs in at near 11lbs with the power brick .. imo there is a better bang for the buck with the toshiba if you find it online at a great price. but imo the sager is a better overall quality system.

One of the toshiba i want to get is the x205 SLI1 and talked to toshiba before and they gave me a price at $1819.99 but since i been checking out the sager form xoticpc. I see that it comes with a better cpu. I am not good on video cards. Is there much a difference between the sli that x205 has then a single 8700m gt 518mb the sager has.

Thats a good setup, strange that you did not choose a 7200rpm, or you chose 2 different sized HDD's.

Other than that, its still a great gaming rig with the ability to upgrade to powerful CPU's, videocards, and HDDs in the future.

    whats your budget?

    For $2500, I would do this setup with a quad-core and 4gb DDR2:

    - 17" WSXGA+ "Matte" Super Clear Ultra Bright Screen (1680x1050)
    - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
    - Standard Dead Pixel Policy
    - ~Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4GHz w/ 8MB L2 Cache - 1066MHz FSB
    - 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 8700GT DX10 (User Upgradeable)

    - Standard Finish
    - ~Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares
    - ~160GB Seagate Momentus 3GB/S SATA 300 7200RPM Hard Drive (9260)

I should go with this setup then. I have a copy of vista. I don't know if it also has the 64bit included on the DVD. It is a downloaded copy but the serial # is given to me by the university. Men i look school. This will be better then the Toshiba x205 SLI right. So there is no difference on a single card like 8700 GT 512MB from the 8600 GT sli 512MB. Is Sli superior or not at all it will performe the same from a single card.

well, i'd STRONGLY advise to leave that Tosh alone..its HUGE, heavy and uses graphic solution that makes no sense at all..it has the same size and almost the same weight and battery life as D900C and still uses mobile components that are slower
..and those 8600M in SLI? it really looks like a joke..horrible performance (single 7950 GTX should outperform it in every benchmark..) and foroget about upgradeability.
that setup by Gophn looks VERY reasonable for this price and I'm confident you will enjoy this great system!

btw. welcome to Clevo forums! :)

Will 8700 GT 512MB will do the job. I did check it out with xoticp and i see that you get 3% off if you buy in cash. I just don't understand their system.

I'm pretty sure it will for months to come..many people have GF8700 GT as their only GPU in Clevo M570RU systems..haven't seen any of them complaining so far ;)
..and if you find it to be a bit too slow one day - you can get second one and run it in SLI..with minor overclocking some D900C users with GF8700 GT in SLI are able to break magic 10k pts in 3DMark06..that is some SERIOUS performance there ;)

I like the setup I told you last time, or something close to it.

    For $2500, I would do this setup with a quad-core and 4gb DDR2:

    - 17" WSXGA+ "Matte" Super Clear Ultra Bright Screen (1680x1050)
    - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
    - Standard Dead Pixel Policy
    - ~Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4GHz w/ 8MB L2 Cache - 1066MHz FSB
    - 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 8700GT DX10 (User Upgradeable)
    - ~ 4,096MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory (w/ Vista 64-Bit Only)
    - Standard Finish
    - ~Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares
    - ~160GB Seagate Momentus 3GB/S SATA 300 7200RPM Hard Drive (9260)

If you want to save a bit of cash, you can probably live with 2GB of RAM or get a different HDD (5400rpm but higher capacity/still 7200rpm but lower capacity)

if 7200 Rpm is it faster hdd access. Also what should i sacrifice and not sacrifice. Damn i have more money i will buy the sli version of it. there is not much a difference in performance right from a single card to a dual card.

ONe more thing. Since i will be buying another hdd later on. Will this void the warranty. How easy is to install another 8900M GT in the future. for sli purpose or one card will do it with no problem.

I have been using my Seagate 5400rpm Momentus drives for over a year and a half now, they work perfect... 7200rpm works well if you need fast load times for large programs/games.

A single card is still very good, especially in this notebook since it can OC very well. And you can upgrade and get a newer and the same card (for SLI) in the future.

The warranty will not be void if you do your own user-upgrades and do not screw up the system (which is unlikely if you are confident with stanard computer hardware).

If I was trying to keep the performance up and under a price I would stick with this "160GB Seagate Momentus 3GB/S SATA 300 7200RPM Hard Drive (9260)" and drop the RAM down to 2G. I would also really consider going SLI in most games it won't really be a problem but in the next 6 months games will start to tax even the best video cards. But you will be able to add another card later if you feel like you need it. That is one of the better things with the Sager's they are upgradeable more than most.

That's a good think. I go over my 2500.00 budget with the settings. like another 160 dollars with the lowest cpu processor and 2gb or rams

I was looking at the reviews. Why they don't recommend to use Q6600 when they have it on the list. xoticpc

The quad-core is the CPU to get, since its finally affordable and will be taken advantage of as the days go by when more and more programs/games are being programmed with multi-cores in mind.

As for SLI, it does help the gaming performance... as long as the drivers are working and the game itself is written to take advantage of the dual cards.

... but if your budget is around $2500, then it might not be worth it.

hey man enjoy, I got mine two days ago, for about the same budget.
I haven't tested out anything other than Half life 2 Ep 2, and TF 2, and Portal, but it is rockin' it in my config.

I went for the dual core e6800 though because you won't get much in the way of performance boost for a while, and for now, the quad cores perform worse than this chip. It may change in the future, but by then I'll just buy a new cpu and install it. Ya know?

Enjoy it, I can't wait to see how this puppy runs CAll of Duty 4.

That setup seems fine, but are you a student, veteran, etc.... because you can get some more discounts if you are.

You should contact XoticPC by phone or email and ask for more discounts... which would help you more (dollar by dollar).... like if you have a student ID, then thats all you need.

Okay i am going with the spec you gave me. It came out to
    $2,557.00+53.00=2610.00 -3% = 2531.70 I Save 78.30 U.S. UPS Orange
    3 days $53.00

    $2,557.00+33.00=2590.00 -3% = 2512.30 I save 77.70
    U.S. UPS Ground
    3-6 days $33.00
Thanks Gophn I am going by your recommendation. Just let me know if this will do a good gaming. I don't overclock my stuff. I live them at stock and usually i let the game choose the option for performance. Thanks.
