If you buy the "Windows 7 coupon" for $20 when ordering from Sager, does that make it free? And it like the free upgrade option M$ is offerering for free? or is it a version I can do a clean install with?

You're not paying for the coupon. You're paying to upgrade your operating system to one that is eligible for the free Windows 7 upgrade (paying to upgrade Vista Home Basic to Home Premium/Business/Ultimate).
There may be a S&H charge for the Windows 7 upgrade. No one knows what type of license Microsoft is giving out for these upgrades, but you can perform a clean install with any Windows 7 license. An upgrade license merely means that it checks for a previous eligible version of Windows (2000, XP, or Vista) that is installed on the computer. You can then proceed to clean install Windows 7.
In summary, a Windows 7 Upgrade disc does not mean you're forced to perform an upgrade (in place) install of Windows 7.
And someone sticky this. This is getting annoying. -
So Sager does not participate in the Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program, but allows you to buy the upgrade for $20?

Windows Vista Home Basic is not eligible for the free Windows 7 Upgrade.
Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate are eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade.
You are paying $20 to upgrade your operating system to Windows Vista Home Premium from Windows Vista Home Basic. The coupon is free. -
According to Sager:
Genuine MS Windows® VISTA Home Premium 64-Bit Edition
Genuine MS Windows® VISTA Home Premium 64-Bit Edition with Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Coupon [+$20.00]
Please note that both items are Vista Home Premium; the upgrade in question is NOT Basic -> Premium. -

It’s a word / marketing game Microsoft is playing to make MS look good, and vendors that sell their OS look bad…
while windows 7 (software OS) upgrade is free, the coupon, the DISC and other materials has a cost associated to it, as well as shipping and handling.
Microsoft is going around telling the world FREE UPGRADE to win7 if you buy vista now, but is charging the OEMs all the extra cost above. as well as asking the OEM to pre-collect the shipping and handling for Microsoft.
so trust me Sager is Just being open about the extra $20.00 charge that most likely 100% is going to MS or maybe even still some extra out of Sager pocket to MS.
so with any other vendor not showing this cost to you, I’m very sure the cost is just added in the total cost of the system. -
If I were to buy one and Windows 7 is released, what will happen ? Will I be able to get a hardcopy of the Windows 7 disc(s) ? -

did you even read my replies and the windows7upgrade site?
you can't use this upgrade site unless you have a upgrade coupon....
this site will send you your windows 7 upgrade kit free of charge if you have a upgrade coupon which you get when you buy a system with vista with win7 upgrade coupon.
and these upgrade couons Microsoft is not giving these OEMs / Vendors that sells Vista free of charge
microsoft is asking these vendors to option 1. pre-collect shipping and materials cost or 2. eat the full cost at the vendors lost. so that microsoft can send it to you free when you go and redeem it on this free upgrade site.
which from what i was told by many sources, the cost of the coupon MS is charging the OEMs are over $20.00 (materials, S&H). -
Oh, sorry, I thought that that was the site to buy an upgrade.
Sager Win7 free upgrade...
