    Hi there,

I'm investing in a laptop, and the sager NP9150 seems pretty darn ideal for the price (not a huge jump cheaper than a sony vaio I am considering, but is just infinitely better). Problem comes in that I live in New Zealand. Even when shipping is accounted for (about $350ish US) it's still not too shabby. But when i account for GST and import duties, I will be spending more than half the cost of the laptop to import it (probably $1000+).

There isn't a reseller in New Zealand. If anyone has bought Sager and is from New Zealand, I'd love to hear your thoughts

Now, my lifeline here is that I have an aunty and uncle that frequent the states reasonably often, so I could potentially pick it up for a really good price. However, where does this leave me with servicing? I am heading to University (you yanks call it College) next year, so this would be the first computer I properly own.

Is there any potential work-arounds, or am I stuck with the over-priced Sony (or other brand)?

Anywhere in Australia do Sager? Or are you insinuating to look go with something Clevo (I know they're pretty similar - I just see no Sager on either of those sites)?

It's not just pretty similar, it is the exact same machine with a different brand, only difference is customer service and maybe bios options (though highly unlikely).

Ah right - my knowledge of Clevo is extremely limited, as you can see.

What would your (the forum in general) recommendations for warranties and the like? Should I get parts cover, so they can send me parts if I need them, and just take it to local computer specialists if I run into trouble? Or..?

I have always wanted to visit New Zealand. From what I see online it is beautiful there, and the fishing is great.

Can I be your personal Sager technician? I don't eat much :D

Mate I have a Sager/Clevo (or Metabox as they're known in Australia) from Affordable Laptops and I can assure you it is identical to the other brands you would've seen people having on these forums. I really can't recommend either Affordable Laptops or Logical Blue One highly enough, both companies offer exeptional customer service and warranty/upgrade options.

Logical Blue One seems to know slightly more about the Clevo machines, but overall they are the two companies you should focus on if you want a Clevo in AU or NZ :)

    Brilliant, thanks guys.

Finally, for someone like me who is only experienced and knowledgable with the software side of computing, with little understanding of hardware, how hard is to self-diagnose problems, like faulty harddrive or ram? Seeing that's mainly what the warranty will be covering.

You sure can, I can offer you a starting salary of nothing, with the potential to move up to nothing within the next 5 years.

I did the same thing as you :) Just started Uni this year, got my laptop last summer. Except I went on a holiday to Aus and picked it up over there!

Got it from LBO. They're really amazing, compare their prices with affordablelaptops same build and they might be a bit more expensive, but email LBO and they will match the price.

Ah great. Have you had to deal with any issues as of yet?

They are looking like a pretty attractive option so far. They also told me they are trying to set up shop in NZ too (probably auckland) where their NZ customers will be covered.

Wow an NZ shop would be awesome!

No issues at all! And I'm pretty rough with it. I already have a couple of dents/bumps on the sides lol. I carry it to uni in a bag a couple of times a week, mostly use it on my lap and not on a desk and it's still working perfect.
