Going to be getting a new laptop soon, and was thinking of getting a Sager. I got burned last time I brought a laptop though (Gateway) and would like to know first if Sager is a reliable and decent company before I spend a cent. It would be great if I could hear some stories from you, know what to expect, and what pitfalls to avoid. Thank you.

P.S. I am waiting for the 2-core arrandale chip to arrive before buying anything, for more battery life. Does anyone know if Sager intends to have laptops with this processor?

Well which machine you want to get? I guess you want a core i7 one. Sager is good, they do have problems with giving you your money back sometimes. Its great that the graphics card and cpu comes unlocked. The build quality is ok not that great though, just very tough plastic, i don't think its worth to get a machine just with hard plastic, i am not much of an overclocker either i just don't like tempering with the settings like that. Its preference, if i am going to pay 2,000 plus i want a machine that will have a magnesium body and some type of tough plastic.

Did you even read his post? He wants the dual core arrandale so that means none of the laptops currently out....and where did he ask about build quality....

For the OP: Sager/clevo customer care is average at best. Its only purchasing from a reseller that makes it first class service. You should go to powernotebooks or xotic pc and look at their websites and ask them specific questions directly.

^ Like Rorshach said, the Sager company has pretty average customer service, but having Sager resellers , your customer service zooms up high in the air as they work with the client and don't treat customers like things.

However Sager as a laptop, loving it :)

Yep, like the others said, the resellers are awesome. Don't buy direct from Sager.

And the current generation of Sager/Clevo laptops are deadly. I don't know if they'll be selling any models with Arrandales, but I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe they'll do an update of the NP2098, since that one gets pretty decent battery life without sacrificing too much power.

There's already an updated version of the NP2098 announced. And it's not a Clevo, it's a Compal.

    Small review here.

It's rather funny how people mention that Sager's service is only average. My experience with Sager when obtaining spare parts was quite pleasant. Perhaps I struck lucky?

That thing looks deadly! Too bad they didn't add a numberpad to the keyboard.

And I knew the 2098 was a Compal, I just forgot to make that distinction

since i was in a hurry i picked up my sager, which i ordered thru xoticpc, from their warehouse in city of industry.
sager is an all-taiwanese run company. they were extremely nice to me but a lot of them could not speak english very well.
and although the man who assisted me was very polite, i heard a sales agent arguing with a potential costumer over the phone. i think part of the subpar sager customer support has something to do with this language barrier and a few cultural differences.
if i had time that day, i would have wanted to look through their facility and see how sagers are built, which the guy i think would be cool with.
would i buy directly from them next time? maybe not, since i like the customer service of xoticpc so much

Last I checked, DevilTech is German, and they do ship in Europe.

Yep, all the staff I spoke to/interacted with were Chinese (I cannot say if they were Taiwanese or Mainland Chinese as I didn't have the opportunity to figure it out.) The sales staff I had interaction with were awfully polite and helpful though. Sure, they didn't have the best grasp of the English language, but that's fine. ;) I don't know if I would call their service subpar. Certainly not to the standards of resellers, which earn their keep by offering a service.

Thanks for the prompt responses. I'm guessing that xoticpc is the way to go then? Also, have other laptop companies announced any Arrandale machines? I've made sure to keep up with the news, and nobody seems to be advertising for machines with it yet.

Personally, I would wait until the end of January to see what CES brings, but if you have to buy now then you have to buy now.
