I was wondering how long it typically takes for Sager to build a custom notebook?
I ordered an NP5793 5 days ago; beyond the initial order email, I have heard nothing: my order status remains at 'pending' (order status page @ sagernotebook.com), my bank account hasn't been billed, and an email to cust. support yesterday regarding status has gone unanswered.
I am not really complaining so much as mildly concerned, as I have never ordered from this vendor before and don't know what to expect.
5 days really isn't so much time (esp. considering that an HP/Dell custom build can take weeks), but given that they have customer online status check capabilities one would think that they'd use it extensively (i.e. day 1:"order rec'd", day 3:"build started", day 4:"parts on order - sorry" etc.). That they are not worries me.

I hesitate to call them and make more of a nuisance of myself, so I thought I'd ask you folks about it.

    Thanks for your input!

(FYI the reviews and general intelligent discussion on this forum are what led me to Sager, and I am anxiously anticipating the abject joy I will feel when I recv my machine - so, Thanks to everyone here ;] )

Which payment methid did you use? Credit card takes about 1 bus. day to process. My money order took about a week I think. Generally, it should take few days to build your laptop.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the 5793's are on back order until approximately 3/20. :(

    [sigh]
I just called sales, and what you say is true. I asked what they had in stock, and the answer was 'nothing' ;)

I wish I had known this ahead of time.
(I am a remote-office software developer with a busted laptop: I am losing money every day that I don't have this machine)

    Thanks for your help!

I don't understand why the stock status is not listed on some of these sites. My last order was also one that I found out was on back order but no mention of this was on the (UK) site.

Sent the payment on Monday and received my 5793 on the same Friday last year, standard UPS from west coast to east coast. I don't know how they did it....

Wow, didn't realize the Clevo notebooks are becoming so popular that the demand is actually outpacing the supply.

    Good times. :)

    Very funny. I lol'd :)

Unless you meant that Sager is cheaper than other boutique brands.

Well, with the current deal of $700 off an NP5793, they are *definitely* cheaper.
    I ordered a 17in (wuxga) box with Core2 duo T9300 2.5Ghz + 6MB L2, Geforce 9800M GTS , 4GB DDR2, 320GB sata @7200rpm, bluray reader + vista business and all the trimmings (802.11n/bluetooth etc.) for $1800 shipped!!
A similar Dell XPS 1730 w/o bluray, even with coupon codes, was over $2500 before it even went in the cart...
It's not God's own laptop or whatever but for the price it's pretty frickin absurdly awesome...

Dell's M1730's got a massive reduction in prices, although you missed out the best bit where they gave a better processor and 4GB of RAM when the deal first came out. They dropped it to the 2.1 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM about a day or two later.

That said, the 5793 is still an excellent deal.

If you buy these laptops on finance, you can get an even better one. I usually pay for my tech immediately and in one go but with some of these interest free deals you can buy a laptop that you cannot possibly afford lol.

I checked out Dell last week, the only XPS deal they had was for the 1530.
.... I just checked the site, they dont even list the 1730 anymore.... I guess the deal was so great, they sold out! ;)
