Hello all,
I have been lurking and asking questions here on the forums, but i was thinking today and i am wondering, what experience i should expect if i get the set up i am thinking of, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
So here is what i am thinking
2.13ghz processor
Video Card: Dual nVidia 7950 GTX 512MB
DDR2 Memory: 4GB DDR2/667 - 2
Raided 64gb ssd 2x32gb samsung drive
3rd HD: 100gb 7200rpm
Network Adapter: Integrated GBLAN
WLAN: Bluetooth
TV Tuner: Digital
vista 64 os
according to my estimates i can have this system for around 4k,
ok I know this is pushing it a bit and its pretty high end, but my thoughts are if i am spending a dime over 2k, I want a stupid crazy experince and show piece that can play any game you can think of and do anything my imagination can come up with.
So my question is in your opinion is this that system?

Well that's one hell of a system. Keep in mind that we're talking about computer technology here, it will get outdated.
I mean, you could probably buy a notebook for much cheaper that will play all the current games. And then in a few years when the computer becomes outdated you buy a new top of the line computer.
But yeah... That computer will play your games quite fine. -
Why the cheapo processor? 2.13 GHz doesn't sound right. The E6700 is 2.66GHz, the E6600 2.4GHz (and that one is pretty cheap).
I think you're wasting your money with the SSDs... why buy them at all at this point in time?
For all the money you'd save on the SSDs you could easily up your RAM up to 800MHz for the increased bandwidth. RAM at 800MHz in dual channel mode exceeds 12GB/s on the bandwidth scale. The FSB at 1033 peaks just over 10GB/s. so some of the 800MHz is wasted but still not that expensive of an upgrade. -
the ram idea is interesting, as for the processor, I figured it would be a marginal difference in performance. I am not sure what it is about the ssd's i find so attractive, they are light, save power and less likely to die if dropped, and they are not that bad, well compared the alienware option which will run you almost 2g, newegg has 32gb for 440.00 and with a 100g 7200 for the third hd option for storage, i figured it would be a good marriage.

The D901C/Sager NP9260 is the most powerful 'notebook' in the world. Period. So yes if you get even a moderately spec'd out one you are in for quite a treat.
At any rate, no offense but that configuration you have is a waste of money.
a) consume a minuscule amount of power vs. regular hard disks
b) are silent
c) are very fast
d) are more reliable (less sensitive to damage vs. a regular hard disk).
You don't benefit from a, b, or even d by getting an SSD in the D901C. You would only gain a small amount of speed. SSDs are for ultraportable notebooks only at the moment in my opinion. It is hard to justify their cost even in an ultraportable.
For the hard drives I would suggest a primary 200GB 7200RPM for the ultimate performance. The secondary drives are up to you and your storage needs. Do not get RAID 0.
2. I would strongly recommend Windows XP over Vista. Vista is bloated, slow (you would be surprised, even on the D901C), and unreliable in my opinion. I used Vista for 7+ months and found that it actually decreased my productivity. Get XP - a much nicer OS in my opinion.
3. As noted, the processor is skimpy. Get the E6600, or better yet, wait for the quad-core to become available.
