The option no longer shows up. Donald from PNB just emailed me about the same... What gives !??

I see it is removed from Sager but we haven't heard anything about it being permanent. They could be just out of stock. Hopefully they offer them again as they were very popular.
-
I thought they have a new model # for it, with the exact same spec.
-

hopefully they are moving to a new number but someone was trying to get hold of a v4 17.3 inch from laptop screen.com and they got that response. -
Finally that QHD 17.3 inch screen is coming out ?
It was about time... -
I contacted Sager and they said it was phased out by the manufacturer. Guess that's that.
-
Mid-way through my timeline of a 7358, still phase 1 and I was notified I had to confirm whether to cancel the order or switch to the normal screen. I thought finally ordering had stopped me from losing out on things (cheap memory upgrades, games, etc) and then they take my screen upgrade too. Went ahead with the normal screen since I need the laptop at this point, but certainly not a fun way to start the day.
-
Wow, that's terrible. So much for Sager/Clevo, I will not be ordering a laptop. Lack of 95% gamut is a dealbreaker. What an absurd disappointment.
-

If the manufacturer stopped making them its hard to put all the blame on Sager. That would also mean no brands can get them.
Hopefully we can find a replacement for it as is was a very popular upgrade.
Many people with the stock matte type screens have been very happy with those. -

AUO is the only brand I can think of within the last few years that had one. Not familiar with a MSI OEM 95%.

Yes all 95% gamut TN panels are AUO.
Hopefully the whole market will move to PLS eDP displays soon. -
Make VA panels for laptop already.

Every should hopefully transition their 15.6" machines at least I would GUESS next gen (maxwell).
-
No updates on this? I have to say I'm surprised that Sager/Clevo didn't even acknowledge this in some kind of release. Who else makes these screens?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Usually when a part is phased out there is something coming to replace it, in this case we still haven't heard anything though.

Well, Sager should have at least provided an early heads up about it, so customers like me would have ordered sooner or just waited longer for whatever they announce, regardless of ETAs.

There is no telling how long a warning they had.
-
So what non-Sager brands still have 95% gamut screens?
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No one uses it as standard anymore, I think lenovo used to.
-
Perhaps they just weren't selling that many...and stockup on 4k displays
-
What I find interesting s that the 90% glossy AUO B173HW01 v4 which was supposedly discontinued back in 2009 is still available as an option on 17.3" models, but the 95% mate screen which was just recently discontinued is somehow being phased out rapidly.
-
excellent point. bummed by this. I really want to buy an 8258, but without the 95% gamut screen, it's a ton of cash for something that's just not quite there for me.
-
Anyone know how much of a hit on the eyes it would be to simply go with the stock Sager/Clevo 15.6 screen? Or is it too risky to try and get an OEM display thru a distributor? Reason I ask is I'm old and am trying to save my eye's any further beating.

Then 15.6 inch 1080p may not be the best plan, you may want the 17.3 inch.

I have the 95% gamut, my wife has the 72% gamut.
Her screen is just as clear as mine, and actually brighter.
The colors are super-saturated (ergo more vibrant) in my monitor, and it almost appears liquid in appearance. It is, in a word, beautiful.
However, the 72% is actually better for most case by case situations. My wife is a costume designer and milliner. Due to this, she needs a fairly exact color match between screen and actual form, and we have found the 95% gamut actually over-saturates the color somewhat. The reds are... well... redder. It's not a different color, or a different tint, but it just seems... more... but the end result is still not what my wife would want. A slight difference from how it would appear in life to the screen.
It boils down the 72% gamut is 100% adobe RGB standard, which is the primary standard most color-based applications are based on, so it's as close to a 1 to 1 representation to what you would see with your naked eye.
The 95% is just... nicer... for photographic work or high-detail work and admittedly, it's kinda nice for games
However, the 72% is more than sufficient and for screen quality, it's just as sharp and clear. You won't be disappointed with a 72% gamut.dvanwag likes this. -
I've found the best showcase examples for a high gamut screen are the first few levels in Crysis 2. With a 90% screen the scenery looks vivid and photorealistic, but on a 72% screen it just looks sort of dull.
-
Well that sucks. My 95% gamut Flat just developed a line of dying pixels and I am sending it in for replacement... Wonder what will happen then.
-
I'm surprised to find this thread. There have been no signs of the 95% gamut screen being discontinued/phased out in Australia. I just placed an order for one.
I've been using a standard matte screen in my P151HM and have had zero issues. FWIR, I believe Ashen has hit the head on the nail with respect to the two screens. I'll be able to do a side by side comparison and take a few photos once the new P150SM-A is in.
Even if 95% was not available, I would have been happy going with the standard matte- it's one of the nicest screens I've had on a laptop and I've owned quite a few over the years. -

Xotic sent me an email a while ago saying these were out of stock after I placed my order for a Sager 8258-s
"We are very sorry – we have just received word that the following item is no longer available:
Display: 15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Sager Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) (SKU - SSC006)
This item is no longer available from the manufacturer.
Please reply back to _ to let us know if you are ok with the stock display. Because of the screen change, you will get $20 refund to compensate for it."
I didn't feel like waiting so what the hell. I'll mostly use external monitors anyways. I get some reassurance reading this thread knowing it's not that much of a difference. -
Yes, the 95% gamut screen is a richer overall look, but other than the colors 'popping out' more, it's not that big a difference.
And the default 72% gamut is more than sufficient for anything that you need accurate color display.
And what I've noticed is the 72% gamut screen can be turned brighter than the 95%, which my wife enjoys. -
Thanks for the response. Don't have anything to compare it to but it looks good to me!

TVs are not designed with accurate colours in mind or rapid response times. They engineered differently and are often not suitable as high quality external displays.
Sager discontinuing 95% NTSC Gamut screens ??
