That's not really right, there are good TVs and bad TVs just like there are good monitors and bad monitors.
-
Heh? Guess you haven't owned a Samsung plasma. Samsung plasma and lcd's are known for their accurate colors out of the box. Especially their plasma's.

There are exceptions to every rule but the bell curve of quality is shifted, if you compare the top TVs to the top monitors that delta will still be there.
-
So are there any news of Clevo/Sager using higher resolution displays in any of the upcoming models? I know there is that 13 inch model, but it's on the smaller side and doesn't pack a 870M that my heart so much desires to have.
-
For reference, are these the correct AUO Optronics part numbers for the displays that are (were) used on the Clevo's 15.6" lineup, that the manufacturer has halted production of ?
AUO B156HW01 V4, 15.6" FHD LED Anti-Glare, 95% NTSC Color Gamut (V4 is the Matte finish model)
AUO B156HW01 V5, 15.6" FHD LED Anti-Glare, 95% NTSC Color Gamut (V5 is the glossy finish model) -

It will have to wait for a series refresh with a new intel chipset. -
I was under the impression that the Sager Matte type screens were 60% gamut? It's only the glossy ones that are 72% isn't it?
Also is there any update on this? Looking to get a NP8268-S, but no upgraded screen is a dealbreaker. -
If it's the same panel, different versions should have the same gamut.

If it's the same panel, different versions should have the same gamut.
I believe the standard ones on Clevos are all 72%. -
Did some digging and found this:
B156HW01 V1 Datasheet download - Panelook.com
Looks like the standard on the 15.6 inches is 60% color gamut. Without a screen upgrade option available, I don't see how anyone interested in a high quality picture could opt for a Sager/Clevo at this point in time. -
Oops.
Now there is a problem. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Note that all the different versions of the panel have different specs.
-
So is there ever going to be an upgraded screen available for Sager/Clevo? Or are we stuck with stock forever?
-

The upgraded screens were one of the most popular options so one would think they would bring it back. Sager hasnt said of any upcoming options but they also tend not to announce anything until its ready to ship that way. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You would assume they would go with IPS options on the next generation but yes there is no actual information as yet.
-
If at all that turns out to be the case..
Would XoticPC do the upgrade for me at a discounted price for taking and keeping my 95% NTSC Gamut panel in return? I got the last one in stock from you guys. -

IPS displays would require a different connector on the motherboard and a different cable.
It would be a next refresh of systems that would have them if they go that route. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
As Meaker mentioned it would not be possible to do because of the different connection. -
Thanks for the heads up
-

That's why it's not as simple as just switching between the two from clevo's point of view since it requires a new motherboard and all that entails.
-
Honestly, it was a switch long overdue. They didn't have to wait for the current screen to go extinct. It's such a lethargic practice.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I do hope they have some TN panel options around though as IPS typically have slower refresh rates.
-
And on many panels, also added processing to slow things down even more...
The G2G time on typical IPS is no biggie if there's no time wasted elsewhere. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There are tn panels on the new edp.
ideal scenario they offer in matte and glossy, tn 1080p (120hz where possible) , ips 1080p, ips 3 or 4k. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Dont forget 3D! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Covered under the 120hz option 1080p panels.
-
When will we get those full gamut no G2G lag LED panels?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Who makes those?
-
No mass production yet, but SamSung showed a 14" prototype four years ago. It has been kinda too long.
-

Then you need to ask samsung
-
If I were to buy a Sager with the regular screen right now, does anyone know how hard it would be to replace it with a new one when/if it comes out? Would I have to do it myself or?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The new series of screens will not be able to fit due to a different connector. You could fit one of the 95% gamut panels yourself if you wanted to though.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
If its possible to do, you can do it yourself if comfortable doing so. Or can send it in to Sager for an upgraded (if compatible) We'd have to look at pricing etc at the time.
-
Can't you just use a pin converter? That's what I did for my old laptop.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The new panels are electrically display port.
-
eDP means full support for 3D panels and high resolution panels like qHD and UHD. Enjoy!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Watch out for pin requirements however.
-
Still no updates?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It has been discontinued now, so I don't see any further updates coming.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's likely AUO are focusing on manufacturing the newer panels now and that large shipments are no longer being offered, even individual panels are getting harder to find now so it does not look good.
-
Does AUO have any wide gamut screen in the new line-up?
-
So just to clarify:
Are there any options for an upgraded screen for any Sager/Clevo models?
I'm specifically looking for a 15 inch in matte. Are there any upgraded screen options available? -
The truth is that the p150/170 hm/em/sm, run all on the old NON-slim form factor, LVDS side mounting screws screen configuration they should've modified this a while ago but they used an old obsolete screen configuration, whereas vaio, msi, asus, hp, dell don't...the LVDS isn't the problem, it's really the screen form factor compatibility that is obsolete.
AUO is now producing mainly eDP slim screens for 15.6" laptops,
LG mainly edp and lvds slim screens.Last edited: Jan 2, 2015 -

The NP8651/8652 have matte type IPS screens available, and 4K screens but they are glossy.
Sager discontinuing 95% NTSC Gamut screens ??
