I'm sure theres been threads about this but I'm not findng any recent ones with the information I need.

I currently live in Dublin and I'm looking to get a sager, what are my options?

There seems to be several UK retailers (Rock, Evesham) but their pricing is way above US retailers.

Is it viable ordering from the US? What are the extra fees to pay? VAT, Customs duty? Anyone tried this in a EU country?

    Thanks for you help.

Regardless of the extra expenses like VAT and duty, I think buying from the US is not a very good idea. If there is ever going to be warranty work done on the system--you'd have to send it back to the US and back to you each time--and that's going to be expensive.

I think the additional cost of going international makes the higher price of Rock and Evesham a little more reasonable.

That was pretty much my own thoughts.

It's tempting to try though when you look at price differences of 5-600 euros, 6-700 dollars or more.

XXOD is a dutch Clevo retailer. Dunno about their prices or shipping policies.

About the prices: Just build a table comparing prices, including everything is cost for an import in UK (taxes, currency conversion, shipping). Then write an email to a UK reseller and ask them WTF about your prices (just more polite)?. You'll be surprised. I'm in Canada and saved like 1000$ over Eurocom list price. And bargain them. You could end up paying less than ordering in the US...

That's a great idea. You have nothing to lose, but the salesperson you talk to could lose a potential sale on a high-end system. Knowing that they have a system you want to buy may motivate them to accomodate you some on the price. Maybe even try to get competitors to bid for your business. It's worth a try.

There are numerous rebranded Clevos (Sager) throughout Europe, in England it can be found at AJP Computers www.ajp.co.uk, in Germany/Austria it's called "Nexoc".

The prices are generally affordable when you consider the shipping costs you'd have to pay if you got it from the US- and in some cases, actually cheaper.

It's worth taking a very good look before you make such an expensive purchase, it took me around 2 months of searching to come to a decision.

I'm pretty much decided on Rockdirect.com. The price is pretty hefty but theres a 3 year warranty and it seems like a solid company.

you can get a sager way cheaper at a lot of places.

i would ask about the keyboard, and if no one can get them (which i dont think will be the case) they sell small nice stickers with other languages on it to place on the keyboard.

Thanks for the tips Winter Raven. But do you mean cheaper in Europe? All I know is that Nexoc is one of the names they sell Sagers in Europe. And they are all in german?
Could someone list sites that sell Sagers in Europe and perhaps with different keyboards?

Gophn has graciously volunteered to make a thread encompassing Sager/Clevo resellers worldwide (including those in Europe); it should be up later today or tomorrow, so keep an eye out.

Thats a great thread, but is Rock Direct really the only one who lets you choose different keyboards? Or should I start emailing every reseller about that?

I checked up the keyboards for you, I looked up replacement parts for the Clevo M570U, only 1 keyboard part comes up for every shop i checked out. You should email Rock to ask if the keyboard is for the notebook, or an external one... because thats what I think it is, if not, then I go check some more.

Rock is definitely one of the best places to buy outside of the U.S. The prices are almost unbeatable.

    UPDATE: found it!!!

    Thanks Gophn, you're the best.
Does this mean I don't have to pay the VAT if I order from Finland?
If I do, it costs almost 400e more than samekind of Nexoc from Germany (except winXP and the keyboard).
