Friend of mine has a Np8170 and he can't connect to the internet using a wired connection.

He can connect wirelessly just fine.

Drivers have been updated (I think). I didn't really notice a install complete or anything like that. It just installed and I restarted.

I would locate the drivers for the Ethernet controller and uninstall them completely and reinstall just to make sure. Shouldn't be a reason for them to not work at that point.

Are you sure your Ethernet router is working? Please check with your DSL company first, if you get the router from DSL/cable/telephone company.

Yeah if you can connect wirelessly it is probably the router or a problem with the ethernet cable perhaps? If you need to reinstall the drivers for the wireless/ethernet nic and then retry. If the problem still persists, then try connecting to a seperate network perhaps a friend? or see if another computer or device can attach wired to the router to assess if it is just the computer or another problem.

If you are still having problems contact me and i will try my best to help out.
