I am pretty sure this board possesses an immense collective wisdom.
Therefore, I wondered:
based on your, or your acquaintances experience, where it's better to buy a Sager notebook?
From Sager directly, or maybe XoticPC, elsewhere?
Can you share your impression about quality of machine built and tested there?
How could you compare their levels of customer/tech support?

Sager doesn't really have the best customer/tech support.
Resellers like XoticPC, Powernotebooks do. They work more with the customer rather than an automated robot talking to you over the phone or email.
But when a Sager needs repairing, they go through the reseller, then Sager themselves.
Bought mine from XoticPC and had a really good first impression with the constant communication, through every stage of the build process and sales. Apparently I sent too much money over, and they offered an upgrade for my processor, so extra money wasn't wasted.
Buildwise, undeniable. Sagers are pretty well built, so I heard from most users. There are occasional times where , "Oh thermal paste isn't put properly," or "Oh GPU isn't seated right," easy DIY fix but very rarely its an uncontrollable RMA situation. When I had my W860CU for the first time, I instantly opened it up to check everything was right.
And it was, I'm glad.
I would recommend XoticPC, but equally about 80-90% Sager Resellers are like them anyway -
Thank you Thisisalamp,
Very good that you glad with your choice of vendor, hope it goes as well for many more years of using your notebook.
I am not that confident, as you are and those users, you mentioned, though.
When it comes to notebooks, I could replace a HD, or swipe it with a SSD, or add some more RAM, but, unlike you, would not know whether or not the right termopaste has been applied between the CPU and a heatsink, and whether it's been applied correctly, or components assembled accurately.
And that is why I asked my question, just trying to save myself from future headaches. -
which country/continent are you from?
-
Hi pasoleatis,
I am from Mount Prospect, Illinois.
I just checked Xotic, Avadirect, Sager, and LPC-Digital online stores via Resellerratings.com.
Xotic and Avadirect rated very high, Sager is rated very low and LPC-Digital isn't listed. These are only stores, I know that sell CLEVO W870CU/Sager NP8760 machines.
What store would you recommend? -
XoticPC or Powernotebooks all the way.
they are the most respected on the other side of the pond to us. -
Thermal paste application however, can be checked by monitoring your temperatures. You would know if you need reapplication when the idle temps are abnormal. I mean, if your idle temps are 70C, well of course that doesn't make sense right? I live in a hot ambient country, so my idle temps are about 40C~ Aim below or similar to that. -
The GTX 280M idles at about 39-40 degrees, that's true - unless you're hooked up with an external screen, in which case the graphic chip never throttles down, and idles at 56-59 degrees. -

Yeah it does depend also on the model of the Sager you own anyway
. Well I did mention that if its abnormal, then consider looking through pasting again.
Oh and my GTX280 IS connected to an external monitor, and idles at 45C right now.
Sager notebook, where to buy?
