So i ordered my np2090 and plan to use it in college both in the classrooms and as a gaming machine (in desktop format) in my dormroom. I have a 19'' widescreen LCD, 2.1 logitech speakers, printer, nice keyboard/mouse, etc. My questions are
1: can the sager np2090 run close-lid as a tower while hooked up to these devices or is it best to leave the screen up.
2: is a docking bay worth the extra 100+ bucks?
3: what about a cooling station? is it necessary?
4: are there any other accessories for a desktop setup which would be practical and useful? (ex: laptop stand, locks, certain cables, etc)

    I'd appreciate any help...

    1. I heard, I think from Donald, that you are not supposed to have the lid closed while it is on for it will overheat.
    2. I'm not sure about a docking station, but I think Port Replicators work. At least that is what I am considering for my dorm room.
    3. Cooling station can never be a bad idea. I heard Sagers run hot, but I am not sure as I haven't received mine yet.
    4. Locks would be a good idea, other than that I'm not sure exactly.

It seems like a lot of people here are in the same boat, getting a laptop for college. I will be using it for the same reasons you are. Can't wait for it to arrive :)

I have a 19" monitor that doesn't work with the sager, I've called sager tech, they told me to remove both monitors via device manager, that got it to work for a while but then it shut down again. They said they don't know if it was because I had an incompatible monitor or because the sager couldn't get up to the 1400x900 res.

You can leave the lid closed but expect overheating. It needs to be open to keep the temperature down.

GlueEater, what type of monitor do you have? I have a 19" Samsung 940BW, I wonder if it will work with my np2090.

Nice monitor glue, it sucks that your Sager doesn't work with it. Whose tech support did you call?

Any external monitor should work fine with the NP2090 . . . no need to worry.
This is true, because the laptop depends on the keyboard for heat dissipation. It's part of the thermal system.

yes im doing the same thing for college, i have a 19" Samsung 906bw, and i know if i dont run at its max res (1440x900) it will shut off after 1 min. My sager thats on the way is WSXGA, so ill just have to switch it to my monitors max res instead of the lids whenever im in "desktop mode"? And ill need to keep it open too? When its open will the laptop screen be running too?

You can run in dual monitor mode (and use both your laptop screen and an external screen at once) or you can use your laptop screen or an external screen as a single monitor.

This is all configured by your OS options.

You can use different resolutions on the monitors if you didn't know.

Why does it shut off after one minute? You can change that you know.

im not sure when i first plugged it in it was running at 1024x768 from my old monitor because i hadnt switched it yet and it kept switching off. so i just changed the resolution to its max and it hasnt done it again? Maybe its because i hadnt installed the drivers yet at that time...
