As stated, would it be worth it for 1900$ CAD taxes and shipping included?

    4 go of RAM
    p8600
    nvidia gtx 260m
    160 Gb 7200rpm
windows vista home prmium with upgrade to win7
    1680 X 1050 screen
    backpack

Cause I hesitate a lot between this and the MSI GT729... Also I know it'S a bit heavier, and I read that you could push the battery to 3 hours... but I'm not sure, can anyone confirm that?

Also, could I overclock the processor ?

    Thank you

Sounds like a great deal. From where are you getting it, if I may ask?

Make sure you get 64bit vista, and maybe a bigger hdd? It usually isn't alot to upgrade the hdd, and 160 gbs seems small. But if it's enough for you, then keep it.

The processor can only be overclocked using setFsb (which doesn't overclock a whole lot) or a pinmod (which is a more complex mod). Via bios it is locked.

Don't forget the Np8662 is smaller than the MSI GT729, so it will be more portable and a little less heavy. As for battery life, yes you can push it to 3 hours with the NP8662.

Ok, I know I could get more HDD, but it's a sacrifice i have to do because i can't pay more... I'd get it from eurocom(i nogociated a price... because it would initially be 2200 without shipping nor taxes). And yes it is vista 64. I know it's smaller than the msi GT729, but as many said on other "Should I get msi gt725 or sager np8662" thread, go with the sager... The guy from eurocom also told me I could upgrade the processor myself in a while, he also told me that the battery life was around 2 hours... but I want 3 with web browsing... anyway I read that it was possible and you told me too so I think I'll get it from there...

I suggest checking out xoticpc.com too. The CDN $ isn't too low anymore, and they have good pricing and excellent service. Buying from the US (xoticpc is a us company) will need express shipping (129$ if I remember correctly) so you avoid customs and don't forget to add GST + PST of your province.

Your deal with eurocom seems good tho. But do visit the other retailers sites, so you don't miss a better deal ;). Good luck.

PS : Forget about the hdd upgrade, I just checked eurocom's site.. 110$ extra to get 90 gbs more of hdd lol.. Not worth it.

:p I've been checking on A LOT of website, and the best deal for me is eurocom... i won't get this price from XOTIC due to the shipping costs (129$). I'll check with the same specs to be sure and I'll let you know just for information :p.

Also, you said I could get 3 hours of battery life... would that be while browsing the net? And also what does it involves... undervolting? or other things not too complicated... ?

EDIT: I just checked... for the same config from xoticpc, with shipping and tax included, it's 350$ more than I'd pay with eurocom (I negociated a price^^ otherwise it would be the same but they give it to me for 1900 :p)

I wasn't going to say anything before, but you should know that a rig at XoticPC with better specs (P8700 w/ 320 GB, albeit sans OS) will cost around 1950, including shipping & taxes. In fact the specs you listed aren't readily configurable since the base model has been upped by Clevo and most retailers.

Also, the OS option you selected is well-compensated for by the better hardware:
    P8700 - P8600 = ~$55
    + 320GB - 160GB = ~$45
is $100, which is within $17 off the cost of the OS ($117)

I know this because I ordered that exact configuration (no OS) and had it express shipped to Canada, all for under 2K.

I don't want to discourage you off your deal; if you feel you've got a good price and it works for you, go for it. But just double check that you've got the numbers right.

I addressed that in my post above ^^.

    To review:
    $1950 + $117 = $2067
That's $2067 for a better rig in your OP including the OS; which is most definitely not $350 more than your quoted price.

Again, this is not to discourage your decision, only to point out that there are errors in your evaluation. I strongly urge you to at least re-read my previous post.

I have a question about this as well.

I'm from Canada but will be in the states for a week. I want the same laptop but I'd like a custom paint job on it, which only xoticpc has, BUT I can't order it since I don't have an address yet, so by the time it arrives I will be back in Canada. So it's either I get it without the paintjob :)() or I ship it to Canada. How does the taxation work exactly?

You take price + shipping and add GST and PST.

    @nthony
I also get a backpack for the notebook with eurocom, and I really can't go over 1900... and I need an OS...

I got my cpu off ebay and saved almost 200 US $, the heatsink was not mounted (came in the box).

I think I made a pretty good deal, no issues so far.

My only issues with buying laptops(outside europe) are that sellers won't declare lower values and I have to pay high custom taxes.
