I just placed my order from xoticpc, choosing i7 820 as my processor. However, I was stupidly enough for forgetting to choose my thermal compound! Therefore I could only have a "Stock OEM Thermal Compound" instead of a "IC Diamond Thermal Compound CPU+GPU". What are the differences in those two? I know sager np8690 has a great cooling system, but will my mistake cause my laptop to overheat easily? Also, is it ever possible to replace the thermal compound after recieving the laptop? I hope I didn't mess up my laptop after spending $2000 on it T.T thanks very muchh!

    1. You might still be able to modify your order
    2. My 8760 temps have been fine with what I believe is stock oem paste (didn't have the option to modify w/ Malibal)
    3. It's definitely possible to replace thermal paste after receiving it

michaeleeli. If you wish to throw your money away, have Sager apply the ICD7 for you for $40. That amount of money can buy you 10g of ICD7, which is enough to cover the CPU's and GPU's of dozens and dozens of notebooks.

The stock thermal compound, GFC-M7, isn't that bad. If GFC-M7 and ICD7 were both applied properly, the deviation in temperature would probably be no more than 4*C at load. Sager is infamous for applying an excessive amount of thermal compound on the components so no matter which thermal paste you want them to put on, it's going to be done improperly. Just pick up a syringe of the thermal paste of your choice for much cheaper and do it yourself.

With that said, the W860CU will not overheat. As long as you operate your notebook on a flat hard surface, it will not overheat on you.

W870CU has good cooling. You'll be fine, so long as you don't do something dumb like clog the vents or run games with the laptop in your lap.
