prices for 940xm will not drop anytime soon; just look how much the old x9000 still costs these days.

Intel never bargain bins even the oldest of generations.

Honestly, buying a GTX 470M ($560) and motherboard (probably around $500)s is getting into new laptop territory.

Add even an ES 940XM into that mix, and you're close to buying an NP8150 w/ 6970M.

    Think that over a bit.

^yea kevin thats true and plus the p150hm offers better audio subwoofers, more ram, battery life and is thinner/lighter.
How much can you overclock on all 4 cores on the 940xm?

I could never justify upgrading to a 940xm.

The 920xm, however is about $200 cheaper on ebay, you can get it for about $380.

Well it was $400 for the mobo and $600 for the 470m....but the aggravation of getting it all done was the worst part.

And you're right, it probably wasn't really worth it in the end. I just wanted USB 3 and a 470. And it kind of irked me that when I asked David when ordering if the USB 3 was going to be an option soon he was vague. Two months after I ordered USB 3 became an option.

So I finally got what I wanted. But spendy.

Did you have a 460M? A 20% increase in performance isn't much, for $600. An overclocked 460M can cover that.

But, if you're happy, so be it.

From Clevo Co. in China, the 470M costs $420, and the USB3 mobo $230 without shipping.

380 is a good price for an overclockable cpu. and iirc, the 940 and 920 overclock to the same levels so there really is no reason to get the 940.
