My friend spilled soda and rum on my notebook about three weeks ago, I took it apart, cleaned what appeared to have been hit, and it was running again for the past week (keyboard doesnt work and is no longer connected). Now, I just got home and tried to start it up, but the screen remains black, and nothing happens. The usb ports don't appear to activate (Mouse doesn't light up) and the fan under the video card doesn't fire up, other two do. The spill was only on the left side, and I don't know what could be keeping it from running when it was for the past several days. So if anyone has any knowledge or suggestions to help me out here, that would be great. Thanks

Does the hard drive still work? It sounds to me like something has fried or been damaged.

Something might have come loose when you took it apart. If that is not the problem then it’s most likely that the motherboard has fried or something similar because as you know these things are not water proof. You will have to RMA to your reseller but note that if you have damaged it then the warranty will be voided as that is not covered under warranty. You could always try a repair shop.

There is no easy way to know you would have to send it off somewhere to get it repaired to know for sure. What I would do is take the computer apart and examine everything (you would need to look at the manual and have an understanding of hardware). Make sure everything is properly connected and then you can start to figure out what the problem could be. Assuming it’s the hard drive you could try swapping it out for another one and seeing if it boots. If all else fails and you can’t fix the problem on your own then you need to have a professional take a look at it.

I have no idea where there manual is. The "Power on" led of the three main leds under the screen turns green if that means anything. Do you, or anybody that has a np9262/d901c know what couldve been fried on the left side of the computer?

Left side (when the lid is up) houses the video card(s). That's why when you're playing games, the left side can get quite hot to the touch (depends if ambient temperature is high).

One of your GPUs could be dead.

You should find the service manual. Theriko has links to them in his signature on these boards.

I know the vid card is there, it was working before today. Would it prevent startup if it was dead? On powering up, the optical drive clicks so that works, I can hear the hdd spin up and whir afterword, I can hear the processor click intermittently, and like I said, the vid card fan is the only one that doesnt turn on, would that fan be dependent on the card (maybe an indication of it's failure)?

Yep, it would keep it from booting correctly. It sounds like you may have either a dead motherboard or dead GPU as others have surmised though.

Alright, well finally, the video card does appear to heat up so I figure it is probably working, at least to some extent, would it only be partially working? In any case, where would I be able to get a new motherboard, and what price can I expect? My notebook is from December '08. Thanks for all the help guys.

99% of the time if you spilled something on it then your warranty will be void, If you have tried to clean it yourself and damaged it then there wont be alot that you can do.

If the motherboard and the GPU have been damaged (happens more then people think) then the machine is most likely a write off im sorry to say

Nothing was damaged when I cleaned it, it was honestly only the keyboard and the plate underneath that were touched. And warranty was never an option, sorry about the confusion there but I never mentioned it because first of all, power notebooks stopped responding to me a year into my ownership, and anyway, the warranty ended in december. But anyway, can anyone tell me if the 9800gtx would be generating heat, (fairly quickly) if it wasn't working? Thanks

you can get the 9262/D900C user manual HERE

anything with sugar in it can cause more damage over time.
    good luck

Unfortunately, just because it powers on doesn't indicate whether it's operating. It may be getting power, but if spilled liquid shorted out the traces and burned up the card, it may not actually be working. The only way to find out if its the GPU/Motherboard or both, is to try to replace both and find out (which is a pain and possibly expensive troubleshooting)

Ok well, what mobile card would I want to get to replace my 9800m gtx? Buying another one is clearly impossible since it's $950 and I'm sure there's a better, cheaper mobile card for the d90xc chassis/ motherboard.
