Hello, I am looking for some inputs or experiences from Sager users. I have received my laptop 9380S in the middle of august. I have a i7 4700 and dual radeon 8970 (crossfire)+ IC diamond...
All was working fine untill recently. While playing a game, for the first time the laptop froze. I saw half the screen coming with white lines and I could not do anything anymore. After that all the problems started... I could get into windows 1 times out of 2. Just cliking loging into a game the laptop froze. I tested another game and the game launched then it froze again. Then loging into windows got next to impossible...
So I reinstalled Win8 from scratch. And now just installing the video card drive freeze the laptop. There is one thing I noticed in the system manager there is always one exclamation mark on one of the video card. I tried disabling one and installing the driver but nothing seems to do anything.
It smeels like something is close to dead ... I suspect the video card and I hope thats there's no other defective parts (HD, RAM, ... ). The worst thing is that I almost did not used it since i can barely play 3 ou 4 hours per week... I did not oc the beast since I dont need it, I dont wanna take a risk since that laptop cost me more that enough and I wanted it to last for a while. I wont take a chance playing inside the laptop since I have a 2 years warranty.
I start to regret buying this... If the "..." 30 days was not over I would clearly ask for a refund. I hope they will fix it and have no problem anymore because I really liked it before that ,,,
Any input or experience you might have is apreciated.
Thanks

It sounds like it could be the video card. When you say it smells like one thing is close to dead are you referring to that electrical short smell? If so you can almost guarantee something has gone bad.
If you're not comfortable removing one of the video cards to see if it works normally with just one in there then your best bet would be to set up service which you can do by contacting your reseller. If you do decide to remove one of the GPU's for troubleshooting you will also want to check with your reseller before you do so to make sure they are OK with you doing that. If its a Sager computer they are OK with you doing so, just be cafeful not to cause any damage. You can then just send in that video card for replacement. -
Thank you for your anwser Hutsady. I would be able to switch cards for sure, it might simplify the process just sending one card. I will need to check with reseller because they already started the RMA.
Do you have any advice on wich card to pick for the test ? Because I guess if I remove one the thermal paste it would need to be reaplied. Do you know if when you send the laptop to Sager, is there any way they make sure they test everything because I dont like to play ping pong with the laptop
Thank you -

Not sure which one to check, I'd check both and see which one is causing the problem. As you mentioned though have some thermal compound ready to reapply.

Yes run both in the single card tests to be sure it is one of the cards causing the issue.

This hurt my eyes reading the typos in this, the best bet is to remove the cards and see if there is something on them that doesnt look right, scorched marks, burnt off solders, something that doesnt look like it should be there. If you had a multimeter I would recommend to look and see if there is a short or if one of the resistors is shot. But if you dont know what your doing the best bet is to send it back and have the RMA people look at it. You should have known better when it came to AMD graphics. That company always has problems. I stick to Intel and Nvidia products specifically for that reason. If Im spending a lot on a computer I want to make sure the components I have in it will be worth the amount Im paying for it.
BTW, IMHO get windows 7. windows 8 doesnt have anything worth the time and effort yet. No real updates, nothing that helps the cause of getting the OS. If you have a touch screen for a monitor, then sure go with windows 8. But personally I see windows 8 as windows vista, tons of problems and they are trying to force a OS on us.
Just my .02, take it for what it is or leave it, your choice. -
Thanks for the reply's. Sorry for the typos
I am not english

Double post (oops) Yeah I guess I should have gone GeForce but I never had a problem with ATI before. Those toy's are expensive

Yes, nvidia always charges top dollar for their highest end card, then the next tier down is still usually not cheap.
