I have been looking around many websites and have found the sager/clevo to be one of the best priced laptops for the specs I am looking for. I just had a quick question on way their laptops are so much cheaper then the dell/hp ones I have compared it to. I was looking at the new XPS1710 but I asked in the which laptop should I buy forum and many people recommened the sager/clevo series of notebooks.
My main question would be why are these notebooks so much cheaper then other with the same specs? Am I missing out on something very important?
Thanks,
Craig

Sager isn't as big as dell or HP. (we don't even have Sager in Europe, had to order my laptop from America).
And dell is overpriced.. -
Well yes and no.
Sager only rebrands Clevo notebooks; Clevo is a major player on the asia scene and even sells it's own brand in Asia. As for the EU and America they sell whiteboxes to those who will assemble them and put their logo on.
So basically the whiteboxes came to sager with a chassis, a motherboard. Then Sager assemble all the laptop following the client specs (screen, CPU, RAM, ODD, HD, etc...).
So you don't overpay for branding or fancy lights/colors like the Dell/HP for example but on the other hand you get some sort of upgrade path for the future.
I believe this degree of customisation is in part the cause of lower price. OEM buys in larger quantities and offer better flexibility.
And don't worry : Better price <> lower quality... From what I can tell, the build quality of the Clevos is far superior to the Dell. Just find a local OEM and take a good protection plan.
@Moobke
Well maybe you didn't look for an European OEM. There are some. It took me some time to find Eurocom in Canada but thanks to Wiki, I bought it locally. I was aiming for Hypersonic first.

Well, i i didn't really find one. Sager was my best choice. Maybe i missed one in Europe?
Anyway, i'm going to be happy with my new Sager even though it costed me alot to get it shipped to Europe ^^
Sager price question.
