So, sager is going to be releasing new laptops from what i've read? I'm kind of confused from all the mixed information. I held off on buying a laptop because i wanted a lit keyboard with good graphics & portable, which didn't seem to be anything until i looked at 17 in laptops. But from what i've read, the 8130 will be getting a backlit keyboard & optimus technology? Can someone link to a source of the update or tell me what's going to be new? thanks!

OK, but who asked for the Red Arrows on the WASD Keys on the last refresh?

Yes upcoming 8130 model replacement will have a backlit keyboard.
However that is months away... mid to late spring...
-
Maybe they could have a Christmas edition with the CTRL key colored Green.
-
I was going to get an 8130 this month, but was torn because it didn't have a back-lit or optimus. Now, however, i'm willing to wait to march when they release it ^^ Plus, if ivy bridge is on schedule, it should have that too, right? Anyone have an estimation on price? Hope it isn't to much more than the current 8130 & 8150 :/
-
Ivy Bridge mobile processors aren't coming March (Q1). They said Q2 at the earliest, around May. I suppose the new Clevos will be released thereafter as well.
-
u can be sure of a summer release with ivy and 28nm graphics
-
Any estimations on price?
-
Expect prices to be the same as the P170HM/P150HM were at launch, which is like $400 more than they are now.
-
so, too much
lol I hope they throw in the next gen cards for their current notebook line-up sometime in january. That'd be awesome price vs performance.
-
I'm guessing from the rumors I'm seeing that I would get a better bang for my buck from the reduced prices now than I will from the hardware update then.
-
I just feel better buying as far from a future Intel "tock" as possible. It just feels like money better spent as seeing new microarchitectures obsoleting the one in my purchase is depressing. Buying now gives me at least 1.5 years of not worrying about Haswell.
-
By the way, why is is exactly the Sager is omitted from Ivy's backwards compatability? Nobody really says beyond the fact that it won't happen. I imagine the reason is that the Sager's mobo chipset isn't on the supported list of backwards compatibility BIOS upgrades.
-
I don't think its Sager's doing. I think its just the way all the Ivy Bridge mobile chips are designed.
-
Yea its not Clevo's doing. Intel made it so only the desktop chipsets can be backward compatible, the mobiles won't be by design.
-
Aren't next generation Nvidia and ATI cards expected before then? Does that bode well for there being MXM compatible versions with the current generation?
-
We should find out if there's a new MXM at CES.
-
Yeah, HD 7000m and GTX600m GPUs should be mxm 3.0b as they will be out before the new Intel CPUs.
-
If it's true and sure, it's a really good news for us...and i guess that the cooling system in our notebook could handle the next generation(28nm inside^^) so it means that we could upgrade without difficulties our laptop in a year/year and a half?
-
I think that's what we're all hoping. I'll be fine sticking with Sandy Bridge if 28nm gives a healthy jump in graphics capability (on that note, do we know if any GCN derivative will make it to mobile cards? I assume so since 78xx should be GCN derivative and 68xx made 69xxM.
