This might sound like a dumb question and sorry if it is.. but I've been looking at Clevo w230ss or Sager np7338 for quite a while now (trying to find the best deal) and I've been eyeing down on Eurocom quite a bit since they offer a 10% student discount

Eurocom is supposedly a Clevo reseller but not a Sager reseller? I thought Clevo and Sager were the same thing.. isn't selling a Clevo w230ss the same as selling Sager np7338? Again sorry if this is supposed to be obvs, as I actually have no clue.

    thanks :)

Clevo is the manufacturer, while Sager is simply one of the more well known reseller (distributor?) of Clevo laptops.

Also check out the reviews of Eurocom in the reseller forum before buying.

Clevo is the original designer whom then sells their computers to places that import them like Eurocom and Sager whom then sell the computers under their name. Sager also has resellers whom sell Sager computers but also provide service and support, often times better then what you get from Sager directly. For the most part if the computer is built from the same Clevo chassis it will be the same computer regardless of the name on it.

Honestly I would buy a Sager over a Clevo. From what I've seen, warranty repairs of Clevo machines can take a long time. I just had my first Sager warranty experience and my machine is coming back Thursday. They received the machine on the 1st and its already on its way back. I was thinking it was 12 business days but that's 8 actually including the day they received it at 11:30 in the morning (just looked at the calendar - it certainly feels longer, I miss my machine lol) so I have to say that's pretty phenomenal.

If you need a great reseller, I'm a fan of Xotic. They got this RMA done for me fast and I hear of people going directly through Sager that aren't so lucky. The reseller you pick makes a big difference in your experience as an owner. Call and ask questions, read their policies about the warranty they offer, just make sure to go through a reseller and not directly through Sager. You can also get a Canada shipping addon to your warranty so you don't have to pay for shipping to Sager under warranty.

Eurocom has a mixed reputation. My only experience with them was purchasing some replacement GPU screws and it went well enough although it took a long time to actually get them but there have been some rather bad things posted about them around the web so be sure to take a look.

To me, it seems wise to go with a Sager reseller instead of a Clevo reseller if you're in North America.

Yep, buying any rebranded Clevo is still a Clevo in the end. Look into reviews of resellers (there's a forum here and another site dedicated to this) and feel them out before you make the leap. It's a good idea to contact a reseller or two, or more, before purchasing, so that you can get an idea of how their service is.
