Hi everyone, happy Thanksgiving weekend! I hope this is the right location for this post. I recently ordered an NP8265-S from sagernotebook.com with the rush service fee. And got this email from them today:
Thank you very much for taking the time to place this order with Sager Notebook, we are pleased to serve you as part of our customer service satisfaction.
To speed up the process of shipping, please scan your ID and the Credit Card front/back used to place this order and send them back by replying to this message.
Once the documents have been received, we will start packaging your order and provide you with a tracking number.
First of all, I didn't even know they were working on Saturdays (I've tried calling their office and no one answers). Secondly, did everyone get asked this to scan and send their ID/CC info? I don't even have a scanner so maybe a picture would suffice. Thanks for any help!

I'd certainly say, give them a call - and as with any email, don't use the details in the email - go to their website to be sure your're calling the correct number.
I'd say don't send them anything until you have spoken to one of their reps on here, or over the phone - using a number from their website.
- I'm in a different part of the world so the rules are totally different, but copying a card is VERY illegal lol (by digital imaging or printing or scanning, technically/legally your are copying it)
Why would they ask for your ID, and Credit Card info - you've already given them that when you placed the order? -
Yeah...my gut is telling me there is something fishy going on. The email came from <[email protected]>. When I check their website, all the email addresses end in @sagernotebook.com. It's the official website too, but no one is answering calls today. What concerns me is if this is a fake email, how did they know I ordered a laptop from sager?
-
Sorry the email address is [email protected]
For a little more information, the rest of the email has the correct order info:
Order number: xxxxx
Customer ID: xxxxx
Order value : xxxx
Your Shipping Address :
xxxx
xxxxx
xxxxx
United States
Payment Type: VISA
Card Holder: xxxxxx
Card Number: xxxxxx
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best regards. -
I'd say sit and wait buddy - keep trying to the phones and wait, they have plenty of reps and friends of reps on here who can no doubt clear up this confusion.
- they unfortunately may have a security breech - I really really hope not as the potential could be devastating. -
Just so I have some fresh pairs of eyes on this, the numbers I'm calling are from this site: custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks
That is the official Sager website right? I'm not being fooled by some fraud? -

WOW this seems so wrong man,
their contact emails end with @sagernotebook.com
You're going to have to wait to monday or try getting in touch with ANYONE at Sager Notebooks and explain whats being asked for and the email is not from "@sagernotebook.com" but from a gmail account and they seem to somehow have all your order information.
These are all Sager contacts.

I'm still sort of in disbelief - could Sager Notebooks really have been hacked or is this stuff reserved for Movies and I'm just being over the top!
I'll be alot happier when other more experienced people have jumped on this thread and said their piece - if HTWingNut is online (Haven't heard from him in a while though) he might be able to call up some friends at Sager and ask questions/raise concern?
Hope everything ok for both you and Sager buddy - Just keep your details Private for now -
I also just want my damn computer lol.
-
Also, I just checked, my order confirmation email I received after placing my order was from [email protected]
-
I'll just pop a little email off to HTWingNut and Prema (- he's probably bought more than few notebooks in his time and is no doubt very well connected in the clevo community)
If they've got email notification on, they might be able to intervene here and spread some wisdom.
Regarding your credit card - I don't want to fuel chaos - I could be totally here wrong, I'm not from that part of the globe!
Few questions,
1. what is the web address you ordered on ? (look in your browser history to confirm - don't guess as you could have miss-spelt it and got a spoof website ?)
2. you beat me to it  2. did you get any email order confirmation, if so, what address was that info sent from?
3. can you log in to the Sager Notebooks website and track your order - it might say something about "waiting" or I dont know?? -
Alright to answer your questions.
1. The website I ordered from was the one I posted earlier: custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks
2. I did get an email confirmation, sent from: [email protected]
3. I can track my order, but it still says it's pending. It's been that way ever since I initially ordered and has remained unchanged. So honestly I think it was never touched and I assumed it wouldn't be until Monday which is why I was so surprised to receive an email from "Sager" this morning. -
The same thing happened to me. I got an email from [email protected] asking me to scan both sides of my cc and id. The email had all the order info. included.
The shopping cart at Sager said that no orders would be processed during the weekend. -
I hope we can get to the bottom of this.
-
its got "wrong" written all over it in my opinon.
If it where me - because I'm a paranoid delusional - I'd contact my card company and go over the information with them and see what they think?
I think this sounds like someone's "got in" be it physically or otherwise - If I had a number or anyone I thought could contact Sager Notebooks I would - as if this is a scam, Sager really need to get an email sent out to everyone potentially involved right away and get the police involved.
I hope I'm wrong about this I really do, I'd look pretty dam stupid but I can live with that if it means your're all ok and no one has sent their details to some scammer and got ripped off -
I contacted my cc co. They said that since the email only had the last 4 digits of my account no. that I had nothing to worry about. They agreed that someone probably hacked into the web site.
-
In addition to them getting this hacking business, if it is that, sorted out, of course. -
It's definitely a scam. Don't forward any additional info. Wait to **CALL** Sager directly on Monday. I would speak with someone and ask them which email address to forward your email you received to.

SAGER DOES NOT USE GMAIL !!!
ALL their mails end with "@sagernotebook.com"
That being said it would be easy to fake a "@sagernotebook.com" mail, too.
They would also not ask such details from you directly, in cases where fraud is suspected they may ask for a credit card copy where essential parts are blacked out, but not an entire scan that contains all your details.
To get your details someone may have intercepted traffic, hacked your/their account...ah well or someone there got fired.
I would change your Sager website login Password to something that you don't use anywhere else.
EVERYONE WHO GOT SUCH A MAIL, TAKE ACTION NOW:

Someone must have hacked their database and can see orders before they're processed. Perhaps someone hacked an employee's account and gained access that way. With the passwords people use these days, I'd say a twelve year old kid with a cell phone could gain access.
It could be any number of things, but this is definitely an attempt to steal your information. There are also websites that allow you to send emails using legit domains. You enter your email, and then enter what you want the receiver to see, and it masks your email with whatever you want, so it looks legit on their end, but it's really not. Scary stuff... -
-
Top input from J.Dre, HTWingNut and Prema - thanks for their responses!
I really just wasn't sure as it's not a country or company I've ever bought from and I didn't want to blast "fraud" about too loosely.
As I said before, I hope it all works out well for you (2), Sager, and anyone else involved. -
i got asked exactly the same thing from alienware in ireland 7 years ago. i told them to knob off after asking me to send all my details by an unsecure email.
@ cloudblade70
are you in the same country ie america. if not this could be why theve asked for this but a gmail account is as mentioned a defo no no until youve spoken directly to them.
there is 1 sager rep on here but we dont see much of him.
Sager Rep > http://forum.notebookreview.com/member.php?u=65571
i was just about to say send him a pm but his last post was in august 2012 so most prob a waste of time. -

It is odd that came from a gmail address. I would give them a call on Monday. Depending on the size of the order the request could be legit as we do also ask for those once an order hits a certain amount. But the gmail email address could be a cause of concern.
They could have been open on Saturday to keep up with order processing because of the holiday sales weekend. -
I ordered directly from Sager in January; total was around $1700 US. Was never asked to submit copies of ID or credit card.
-
Bad luck! I got the same email as you when I ordered my notebook last Saturday. Did you successfully contact the company? I call them today but no one is there.....
-
We want you to know that Sager is looking into this issue.
First, we can confirm these emails are NOT from Sager. If you receive one, do not respond.
Second, we are investigating how someone came to possess the order confirmation data that allowed them to issue these emails. In order to aid that process, we would like anyone who received such a communication to forward it to [email protected] AS AN ATTACHMENT (this will keep source information intact).
Third, as far as Sager is aware, no credit card information has been compromised on Sager’s end. We will update if we find out any more information.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.Blacky, Prema, MrDJ and 1 other person like this. -
OP just to be on the safe side I would change passwords to your email account and run antivirus software to eliminate the possibility that the scammer obtained the order information from your own email account.
-
Wow, this is scary.

Hi all, I recently woke up after my sleeping after my night shift and saw that I received this email from Brian from the Sager sales department:
Hi Kev, How are you!
Do not reply that email for your payment information, it is a fraud and it is not coming from SAGER!
We are very sorry for this happen on your purchase with us, our web order server been hike during the weekend; the hiker can not locate your payment information, so he send you a email trying to take the advantage during the weekend, we do not works and you can not call in to verify this;
Don’t worry, your payment information never released to anyone and it is blocked from our order server;
We already report to police about this online fraud issue and hope we can collect more information about this guy and put him to jail!
Thanks to checking back with us, please call your bank to make sure your charge card never be charge by another transaction beside SAGER (Our bank merchant name is “Midern Computer Inc.”, and we will not do any charge until your order is ready and ship!
If you have any question, please let me know and I will do the best to have answers back to you!
Thanks,
I then called him and he explained the situation to me that my information is safe since they only have the last 4 digits. My order is currently being processed normally. Crisis averted. Hope this helps to anyone else concerned. -
I also want to thank everyone here for posting and making me feel like I wasn't going through this confusing weekend alone. I will definitely post here more often after I receive my laptop and play with it
-
Sounds like Sager at least handles the credit card information correctly. By doing seperate handleing they reduce hacker risk, as in this case, and also employee exposure, i.e. low level employees can't see the card info.
I just hope that no one sent a copy of their credit card and id. -

I hope they track this guy down as it's people like him that mean the protection in place is required which can cause so much hassle when trying to sort out a reasonable payment method.

Ok, this may be off topic but I don't want to clutter up the forums with a new thread. My laptop was made in two days and shipped out Tuesday evening with an estimated delivery date of Thursday evening (2-day air). I absolutely cannot wait for it to arrive! I looked around on this forum and elsewhere on the interwebs and couldn't find too many reviews/what to expect for the NP8265-S. Is it a relatively newer model? I got mine with the 4900 processor, 780m GPU, 120gb SSD for OS/most frequently games, and 16gb memory. What should I expect in terms of noise while doing simple tasks and while gaming? The game I'm into at the moment and will be for quite awhile is Path of Exile. I'll probably also be playing some Reaper of Souls once that releases, maybe some FFIV:RR and Skyrim and definitely the new Dragon Age.
Is there anything I should do when I first receive my laptop before I start using it, i.e. checking for certain things or calibrating anything? Do the stock cpu and gpu settings work well enough or is some tweaking/overclocking recommended? Thank you -
-
not a dumb question at all. ive been on here for 5 years and still get confused with all the worldwide model numbers and different OEM numbers.
cant help though as i have no idea -

The NP8265 is the P150SM, the NP8255 is the P157SM. Pretty similar machines except the look of the chassis and the NP8265 has a second 7mm drive bay which can fit a SSD.
The "S" variants come with a better stock configuration at a lower price point. If you took a S model and regular model and spec'd them out the same you'd have identical computers but the "S" would cost a little less.
As mattcheau mentioned, its best to open a new thread if the question is totally different then the tread.Prema likes this. -

If any one replied to the email, just call your credit card company right away. The phone number is on the back of the card. -

Yes, if in doubt always contact your card issuer.
-
I did get an e-mail from xoticpc that my order was canceled, and I looked on my xoticpc on-line account and also saw the order was canceled, so I was talking with an xoticpc rep.
PM me if you want her name. -
