    Hi folks,

I was reading few posts somewhere on the web ... and the person was totally against buying a "Sager" brand versus established companies like Sony, HP, Dell, Fujitsu, ...

His reason was that Sager would fail to have Spare Parts after the 1st couple of years after they have sold you your laptop ... whereas companies like Dell & HP and Sony would have Spare Parts long after your Laptop is Ancient.

Q: Is there any Truth to that statement?

because then that will change lot of people's decision to buy from these Smaller Resellers!!!!

    Thanks,

    G! :)

There're still parts available for my 5-y.o. _Sony vaio Z1A? Not from _Sony - whatever stock of parts they may have had they've long since offloaded to third party OEM parts speculators, and finding used parts on eBay is usually a better proposition. So, as to the bit concerning national brands, I'd have to say that that's wholly illusory.

As to the availability of Sager parts - Sager purchases barebones systems from Clevo, which is, if I recall correctly, one of the larger ODMs for many different so-called national brands in addition to the systems put out under the Sager name or some of the other small variants. In addition, the basic model underlying the Sager NP9262 - the Clevo D900/D901C - is used as the foundation for systems issued by a whole plethora of boutique computer ODMs, as well as some of the gaming divisions of some of the national name brands.

As a result, the unit volume for a Sager/Clevo model is probably on par with, or perhaps in excess of, many of the models from a national brand like _Sony ('though probably not _Dell). If the volume of units sold can be taken as a meaningful proxy for measuring the degree to which replacement parts will be available after purchase, the odds of parts being available for a Sager are probably better than _Sony because of bigger overall volume, and also probably better than even _Dell because of the number of queer little proprietary bits _Dell insists on sticking into its systems (_Dell is the only ODM that I know of to use a non-standard wiring schematic on its PSUs; hence, a _Dell PSU cannot be replaced with a universal PSU, but only with a _Dell-specific PSU. That, to my mind, is not a great indicator that spare parts will be widely available in a few years - a state of affairs that I have, sadly, fallen into twice now with two _Dell products.

On that basis, I think that it's fair to say that you're more likely to be able to find reasonably priced spare parts for a Sager 5 years after model release than for a _Sony, or a _Dell, or most other national brands.

There, see, that's the true benefit of actual experience; being able to state with authority in one sentence what it took me sixteen sentences to state. :D

trust me i know from first hand experience.. i actually think sager is one of the best out there for that one purpose as is compal as well.. that is one reason i like owning something like these. i know i can call and order just about any part on the system. try doing that with toshiba or sony or hp etc... you maybe can get them but you will be lucky if they sell you that specific part without saying to ship it in

There are Clevo vendors in Australia that will sell spare parts if needed... just contact them.

Read Clevo Guide for worldwide vendors.
