Lately, I've been really tempted to get a Sager notebook, as my cousin keeps showing off his new one to me, which is really annoying  However, my dad won't let me go off spending money on a brand he's never heard of, so my question is, How's Sager's Repuation as far as build quality? Are they built poorly like Alienware Notebooks, or are they bulletproof like Leveno's ThinkPad line? And hows Sager's Tech Support and Return/Exchange policy?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Sager doesn't build laptops, they just configure it and give their own support and policies to customers. Clevo builds their laptops, of which many other brands buy and relabel, which include Alienware, Voodoo, Falcon Northwest, etc.

Great Review! I'm going to show it to my dad! Lifetime Tech Support?!?! That's great! And the "No Dead Pixel" Policy is also another great plus!

I just wanted to check out Sager's Reputation with other people who have bought from Sager. I wanted to make sure I would not be buying a notebook that has horrible build quality/tech support as companies like Alienware do. I have evidenly found that Sager's Reputation is great and hope I can purchase my next notebook from them (My dad said flat out NO to Sager, which really made me angry  )

The reason he has never heard of them is because they don't advertise. They take that money off their computers so you get a better price.

I was actually going to post this exact same thing.

Thank you very much for the Sager review; before reading it I was not aware of the company. I am very impressed with the machine in the review. Within a few months (year max) I am looking for a new machine and I am looking at a laptop (for the portability and ease in hooking up). And I must say, after reading that review, Sager is on the top of my list.

Like the thread starter, my only pause is that I don't know much about them, like their customer support, reputation, etc..

Glad to hear you liked the review ;) I have had this notebook for about 5 weeks now, and I have never had a better one. Great for gaming, and the build quality is superb. I highly recommend Sager - PowerNotebooks is the place to get them.

Thank you for the reply. :) I have a few quick questions:

What is the real difference between buying from Sager or PowerNotebooks? Powernotebooks seems to be about $50 less. Do you get the same support when not buying directly from Sager?

I noticed a TV like coaxial input in the back, is that the built in TV tuner? I don't think I've seen a laptop with one of those, most are external USB.

It has a built in camera for video chat, does it also have a built in mic?

So far, my lists consists of this Sager, the new Thinkpad Z series, and Dell 6000, in that order.

The Toshiba Qosmio line has built in TV tuners, so you don't need an external dongle or tower to input TV into your laptop, just plug and watch! I don't know Sagers too well, but would suspect they at least have external TV tuners to say the least.

Actually AMDvsIntel - mine has an internal dual digital tuner option, I can buy it and install it whenever. :D

When you order from PowerNotebooks, you can get support from them, plus they configure and would repair it too. They are even better than Sager is. Recommended.

Yes, it has a built-in mic too. I haven't used it yet - I have a nice external Logitech one.

This is a much better notebook than the Dell i6000. I suggest posting a "What should I buy" thread in hardware and answer the FAQ, that way you'll get more suggestions. ;)

More than a decade ago (two careers ago), I was tasked to buy a dozen computers for the company I then worked for. Although the boss didn't trust Sager, I did buy one for myself. Still works.

At a time when most notebooks were 486-33SXs, Sager sold DX versions, and was the only company with a Pentium notebook. If you did scientific simulations as we did, a DX chip (or better yet, a Pentium) was priceless.

Even though I am not a gamer, it is good to see Sager is still around, and has found their niche.

    I also have a still-working Sager 486 laptop; built like a tank.

The people at PowerNotebooks are supposibily superb at doing their job (check the other thread about pronouncing the word "Sager") and have great tech support.

I agree with that - they are the best Sager dealer out there in my opinion. I wrote about them extensively in my review of the Sager NP-5320. ;)
