Hello, just a simple question...
I've been trying to research Sager's warranty. I read the guidelines on their website, but it's an American website. I really want to buy a Sager laptop and take it back to Aussie with me (from the US), but I'm worried about the warranty. If anything breaks I don't want to have to ship all the back to the US to get it fixed.

I would call them and tell them your concern and see if they have any answers for you. I am sure you are not the first person considering purchasing an american sager notebook and going over seas. They will probably offer some sort of solution for you but you will probably have to call them for this one I think.

From experience they prefer to cross ship parts when it is feasibly. I spend 300+ days a year traveling and they have been reasonably with me so far. The upcoming video card upgrade might be the first time I have to ship it back. (maybe) I would plan on getting the system 2-4 weeks before you leave that way you have a chance to break it in first.
That way it there are problems you have time to have it fixed first.

I bought a laptop from XoticPC and live in the UK. The Sager warranty specifies that for overseas customers that you have to pay for shipping both ways from your country and insurance (optional?). The worst nightmare is if there is something wrong with it out of the box. In my case Sager sent a replacement part which I fitted myself and it sorted the problem out fortunately (problem occurred approx 1.5 weeks after receipt). If the issue is serious then you will have no choice but to send it in, or if the problem is identified early on you can return it in 15 days from day recieved and get your money back (still have to pay shipping and insurance one way). It's a joke really they should pay for shipping if they didn't build it properly or test it sufficiently in the first place. Although I don't think local resellers of Sager or EuroCom etc. companies do this, you can imagine some unethical person sending dodgy machines overseas because they are less likely to send it back. A way of getting rid of your machines that didn't quite make it fully through testing phase. It's a risk to be sure either way. I didn't get a dead pixel guarantee and didn't get a dead pixel screen (not sure if I'd spot it at 19200x1200 res anyway). Roll the dice and regret nothing if you go ahead.
On another note if your getting a Clevo laptop (i.e Sager, Eurocom etc machine) for gaming and would like to upgrade your video card to something better in the future (and have been cajoled by the 'User upgradeable' marketing ploy) then read this (page) thread:

One motherboard replacement already to accommodate quad core utilisation, also now another motherboard replacement just to use the new Nvidia 8800 graphics card, and another down the road if you want the new Penryn architecture. Buying a new computer now should have these things incorporated (bar Penryn), but look to the future and say to yourself do I want to upgrade my whole motherboard just to keep it up to spec/increased performance because of poor Clevo planning/marketing scam. I haven't heard of any other company that that does this with such promiscuity. -
wow that really sucks for international customers.

Hopefully if I went along with it then I would get some imte before I left. I'm holding out for the XoticPC preorder as I've been waiting for the 8800m until I bought my notebook.
I also got a private message from Eurocom saying that they offer international warranties from their resellers. I browsed around their website trying to find information on an International warranty but could find none. So maybe this is just some that is done on the DL.
Frankly I don't get why there wouldn't be an international warranty for these machines as they are blatantly based off of Clevo systems and Clevo is sold all over the world. But then again, since it's not being bought Clevo they don't have to honour it.
Maybe they would do some sort of reimbursement if anything did go wrong. -

Your right, They just make you buy a whole new laptop without the option of changing out the mother board. -
Personally, I just think they jumped the gun. They should have waited to see what was going to be required with the 8800GTX's before they released a new motherboard for the D901C. That way there would have only been 1 motherboard revision. I would honestly like to know if they DO plan on adding in Pentryn support or not to the D901C line. If so it would make sense to wrap the Pentryn support into this motherboard revision instead of having another one down the road later.

Does every topic have to revert back to the 8800m motherboard upgrade issue?

Don`t get me started on how Sager`s wonderful sollution to my broken audio jack is a total mainboard replacement
So I guess warranty is a pain for(from) Sager
