Just did some business with System76, i can see on the ship tracking the laptop origination scan was Baldwin Park, CA. That's interesting, i'm pretty sure when i ordered my D901C clevo from XoticPC it shipped out of Baldwin P, and my P370EM clevo ordered from Sager (pretty confident i remember correctly) also shipped out of Baldwin P.

For my curiosity, i asked System76 about my order's origination being Baldwin P, because they (System76) are located in Denver CO, and they said they have a "facility" in Baldwin Park.

I know Clevo and Sager are only a couple of miles from each other in City of Industry (in fact i remember some address check showing they were only blocks away from each other), and i remember picking up from this forum in the past, some family relationship between Sager & XoticPC owners, and that Sager builds some boxes (maybe all) for XoticPC. Don't quote me on any of this please.

Is it reasonable to assume that Sager is probably supplying System76 whiteboxes, and sometimes builds and drop ships System76 orders in some cases (my order needed a matte screen, maybe Sager is the place they get installed?) ?

Not that any of this would bother me, i'm ok with Sager, XoticPC, or System76 building out my order, just curious about the business relationship between the Clevo players in Baldwin Park.... And i also remember something about ProStar having a location in Baldwin Park too....

All Sager resellers including us place the order with Sager when you place the order with them. I cant speak for System76 since their notebooks are not Sager branded. There are only 3 places in the US that actually import Clevo barebones, Sager, Eurocom, and Pro-Star. Everyone else gets their computers from one of those three. Thats why you see the same origin shipping address when you get a Sager or order from a place that sourced their Clevo barebones from Sager.

Thank you Hutsady. The interesting thing business model wise, is that it was not just the whitebox that came from (Sager?) in Baldwin Park, that box was configured to my order spec in Baldwin Park and shipped from that location after it was configured/burned in, to my address. It never went anywhere near Denver, System76's location. Maybe the answer is System76 has a facility in Baldwin Park, close to Sager/Clevo, for obvious reasons.

What interested me was i could not find any physical address for System76 in Baldwin Park/City of Industry. My thoughts are it would be a beneficial model for both Sager & System76, if Sager did (some or all) of the System76 builds and drop shipped directly to System76 customers. Sager gets more pipeline efficiency, System76 avoids facility overhead, and best part - since Sager only sells Windows O/S boxes and System76 handles Linux, they don't compete against each other in retail space.

Unless you ordered custom modification that would require the system be shipped to System76, it was built and shipped from Sager. This is how the reseller program works. My computer would have been here much sooner had I not added on XOTIC items that caused it to be shipped to them.

Some dealers do opt to have complete systems drop shipped, while others order barebones and outfit systems themselves. It depends on the business model and their technical proficiency. Since System76 focuses on Ubuntu and Sager does not support Linux, it makes sense that they (System76) opt out of drop shipments.
