Hey guys, i use to get about P6000 in 3D mark 11 some time ago. Recently, I updated 3D mark 11 and did a benchmark test and got about P4800. The graphics score is really low. Is it because I its a different version of 3D mark 11 or something is wrong with my hardware? Here's the score: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,CLEVO P150EM

EDIT: One more thing, why is my core clock only 300MHz and memory 150MHz when based on MSI afterburner its 850/1200.

EDIT1: While runnign 3D Mark benchmark, the GPU goes up to 100 degrees, its this normal?

EDIT2: Sometimes I'm getting scores of as low as P4100 and my clock speed are 0MHz. AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,CLEVO P150EM

EDIT3: I am using Prema BIOS.

sounds like a throttling issue. id open up ur rig, clean out the fans/heatsink fins and repaste ur gpu. aside from that, its normal that 3dmark just reports ur idle clocks, which indeed are correct at 300/150.

I just cleaned the fan few days ago. It has an idle temp of 44 Celsius, i guess its time to repaste? I got my laptop about 2 years ago, how often do I need to repaste?

One more thing, is there a way if I could check to confirm that the GPU is throttling?

idle temp sounds fine, infortunately ull need to check ur load temps in order to determine if a repaste is necessary. could also be that u somehow budged the gpu heatsink thus leaving it not perfectly aligned. ive seen this kinda thing happen before...
theres no rule of thumb when it comes to repasting, always depends on what kinda usage u put ur rig through. the more u stress ur gpu/cpu the more of a wear ull put on a paste and after a while even the best applied pastejob loses its efficiency.

since ure already using afterburner u might as well stick to it in order to check for throttling. let it run and log ur clocks in the background while running 3dmark, then check afterwards if ur clocks stay consistently at reference speeds of 850/1200 or if theyre wavering irratically. especially at 100C that would be a real risk, considering thats the tjmax of the gpu chip!

Alright thanks. The clock speed did indeed dropped erratically. Just ordered a tube of ic diamond, hopefully it'll solve the problem.

Just need wanna confirm that its really a heat issues instead of something else serious. This looks like a temperature issue right?

looks pretty definitive to me. look at those temp spikes in the upper right graph, whenever they reach 100C ur gpu usage takes a serious hit in the lower right graph. id definitely go ahead and try a repaste as a first measure, surely the cheapest option atm :)

The curve is way too steep. Clean out your heatsinks (all under the main hatch). The fans can be removed to inspect the heatsink without disturbing anything. If that looks fine check the thermal paste and re - apply. If that does not help and the fans are spinning the heatsinks will need replacing.

Repasting worked. Just one thing though, I accidentally peeled off a small piece of black rectangular sticker-like coating on the CPU heat sink.

Right now there isn't a problem but will it be a problem in the future when I repaste it again? Every time I remove the heatsink the coating sticks to the harden paste and it'll peel off slightly. Just wondering if its completely gone, would it affect the efficiency of the heatsink?

that black sticker is basically just an extra precaution against any thermal paste flowing out of the contact area heatsink/cpu die and onto the rest of the cpu package. using an appropriate amount of paste (meaning: using more does NOT help!) to cover the die should never result in "overflowing" though.
