    Sager= Cmos bad cheksum?

    I Got this Sager D5P (D500E) for free, It works and everything but it wont keep the correct time,Plus evertime you start it up it does this memory test thing and Cmos test and it says "Cmos Bad cheksum" Does that meen i need to replace the Cmos battery? Does anyone know where it is located? Is it easy to change?
    It's has a P4 3.60Ghz
    Running XP pro
    1 gig of ram.

    99% probability is that the clock battery is dead or very near dead. I'd say just swap the RTC (Real-Time Clock) battery and see what that does. It's about a five dollar repair at the most, so it's definitely worth a try- you just need to crack it open and swap the coin cell battery.

    Could also be a virus, but that is very very rarely the case.

    Question - Does it boot into windows?

    after the test it does boot into windows and everything works fine, Except the clock/calander always resets itself back to October 2004 1:00am ,LOL
    Where is the RTC battery? I know what it looks like just need a place to start looking before i have to take this whole thing apart.

    Well, I dunno on that one. Never owned a sager- have you tried looking for support documents? And you're going to have to take the thing apart anyway, I'm not sure if the battery is accessible by just removing the keyboard assembly on this model.

    I have gotten the message that i need to set my clock,date, to correspond with other things, Really, besides the time thing this Laptop actually works pretty good,Nice and fast. I'll poke around in it to see where the battery is, I havent been able to locate any manuals for it yet. Oh well guess it'll be a learning experiance!

    I also located the battery under the Keyboard, This is going to be easy as pie! :) hopefully this solves the clock problem.

    Well i replaced the battery,reset system time and date, and all is working!!! HoooYaaa. Perfectly good laptop for free!! well minus the cost of the battery.
