Guys, want to get a Samsung 830 SSD to use in a 9150.
Want a 7mm in case I get a smaller computer next year.
So can someone tell me what the difference is between these two models on newegg?
Both are 7mm / 2.5 but one is specified as notebook ($309) and the other is stated as desktop ($266). I can't see a real difference. Dimension, power, and accessories all seem the same.
TIA

The desktop one comes with a mounting bracket and power cables. The laptop one comes with a spacer and, what I believe to be, a USB transfer cable.
If you look at the more pictures, you can see it.
Here's a link to the bare drive:

Thank you.
I looked several times and missed that.

No problem! I noticed it earlier when I was looking at the 128gb version. I ended up getting the bare drive myself.

Can't see why the price is different. The only difference is the small plastic spacer and cable, neither is essential.
-
@Tmets, did you use a spacer when you installed yours?

I'm just curious, why do you prefer the Samsung 830 to the Intel 520?
-
The 520 is too expensive Imo. It also uses an sf controller, which is not good with incompressible data. Not good if use encryption. Samsung is known to be reliable and fast. All I need really.
-
Can you give me examples of what I would need encryption for?
-
-
Well, I don't know how many people use these gaming notebooks for work that needs to be secured... I don't think there are many though.
Right now that is not my reality, there is nothing in my computer I would really need to hide if it was stolen, so encrypted data speeds are irrelevant to me right now. -
That's fair enough, but you have to think how much personal stuff is stored, like logins, emails and the like. I was really just using encryption as an example. There is a lot of incompressible data on your computer whether it's encrypted or not.
