    Oh, I would appreciate that...
Idle temps would go much lower and the fan would kick in less often.

But I'm afraid these Sandy Bridges work in much more complex way than those Core 2 from years ago... :/

But I would like to undervolt it, even that just a bit.

Well, If you are running 32bit OS, I might suggest "notebook hardware control". Brilliant program, but not available for 64bit systems yet. I was able to undervolt my old Pentium M 760.

You can't do anything with Sandy Bridge processors unless you have the 2920xm.

You can't undervolt any notebook core i series CPU ATM. Only the extreme processors have unlocked multiplier for overclocking though.

what you wanna do is undervolt and/or underclock the gpu (at idle/low settings) which can be done.

The 2630 is a 45w part, and because it's got Intel Speedstep- as long as you set the power settings in the OS to let it downclock on idle- you shouldn't need to do anything. It will only draw 1/3 to 1/4 of that power when idling, so undervolting wouldn't do much for it.

As others have said, the 70-100w power draw of the GPU is more significant, and downclocking/undervolting that will have a more immediate effect.

Well, running desktop tasks, my GPU runs GPU/Mem/Shader at 50/67/101 MHz and 0.85V. Not sure how much less you can go with that. And I don't see anywhere or way you can change voltage on the 485m GPU.?

Iirc jaybee over at the 8150 owners lounge got it to 30 or lower stable. I wanted him to compare it to stock which we hasnt had time to do but i think he day it increased battery life.
He used nvidia inspector. Not sure if it was undervolted too.

Hmmm, nVidia Inspector only allows 0.85v or 1.0V nothing more, and when I say apply, it kicks it back to 1.0V

    Thanks guys for the replies.

Btw, those having 6970M, what is the lowest voltage + freq you all have?

Mine was stable on 100 Core, 150 Mem, 0.75V.

The CPU is not the issue with heat and noise in these computers. It's always the GPU. I wish we could use quicksync or Optimus quite badly. Sandy Bridge CPUs with speedstep will undervolt and downclock themselves naturally.
