I'm looking to buy the 2090 come August, just in time for my second year at college. All my other questions have been answered thanks to all the reviews and FAQs on this forum. I do have one question, however, concerning the pricing of the notebook.
I've read about a price drop for two of the Santa Rosa processors, including the 2Ghz model.
My question is this: Will I capitalize on the price drop if I wait? Will the savings made by the seller be passed on to me in the form of a lower price for the processor I choose (being the 2Ghz one) by August? Or will it take long time for the price difference to be eventually passed down?
Answers greatly appreciated.

If there is a price drop, you would probably see that reflected in the price pretty quickly.
Unlike certain big box brands, where laptops are made months in advance, stored, and shipped out in large quantities, laptops like the 2090 are sold about as fast as they make them.
No back stock means pricing changes are reflected fairly quickly--that, and coupled with the cut-throat competition and paper-thin margins these resellers are working with and the consumer is a real winner.
Be careful about what your talking about though--Santa Rosa is not a CPU, it is a platform/marketing scheme.
There are supposed to be some price drops soon (June 22?) and with AMD dropping prices already they could be substantial, but the Santa Rosa platform is relatively new and the demand is high so that could curb downward pressure on these notebooks
There is the mid July price cuts, but I do not know if the -
I can't offer anything important, but I'm in the same situation you are, tunes86. I'd love to see a slight discount by mid-August.

There won't be any laptop Core 2 Duo processor price drops until after August. When they do come, you will see the price drop effective immediately on all Sager and other private labeled laptops. gerryf19 is correct that this is one of the great advantages of buying custom built laptops instead of the mass marketed pre-built multi national major brands.
Acutally, Santa Rosa is the engineering code word for the new Core 2 Duo processor. Crestline is the engineering code word for the new Intel 965 chipset that supports it. So it is the Santa Rosa/Crestline platform. These are engineering code words and have nothing to do with marketing. Intel Centrino Duo is the marketing term for the new platform. -
So, the Centrino Duo is different and "better" than the Core 2 Duo, or am I mistaken? Does the 2090 have the Centrino Duo or the basic Core 2 Duo?

The Sager NP2090 (and all Compal IFL90 models under other private labels...see the Compal section of this forum) uses the new Centrino Duo (Santa Rosa/Crestline) platform, which is the latest and best platform available today.

Tasty. Thanks for the info.

Thanks very much for the info, I suppose I won't bother waiting until after school starts to save the fifty dollars or so. I too was initially concerned with the official Centrino tag, as my idea of centrino was that it was a budget processor, but I guess the change is in name only.

I think you may be confusing Centrino with Celeron. Celeron is the budget processor...Centrino and Centrino Duo are top of the line.

This price drop will effect the Sager 5790 also, as it too is built from Santa Rosa, correct?

Correct, but the price drop won't come until after August.
Santa Rosa price drop (as it effects the 2090)
