I am in the market looking to buy a new laptop for Light gaming, photo editing and everything college related. With the pricing and components similar I am torn between the two.
My requirements: i7 processor, 8+GB RAM(1600), strong grahpics card, SSD(120g)

I am looking to spend around $1400 and both machines currently configure to around $1500.

Are there any other viable options?

well..... for photo editing, you'll probably want to get a screen upgrade. This is probably going to be tough though concerning your price range and Items that you want. None the less, the stock screens are fine but you'd probably want to boost the color gamut.

The only thing killing your price into that range is the SSD. Everything else you want are bare bone. Ask the reseller if they offer a NBR discount as well. Some offer up to and additional $50.

If you're looking at Malibal, wait a few days for the Lotus (P150EM) to come out. It could be about $100 less than the P170EM. This is a 15" screen and will come with i7 and 8g ram. Not positive if the ram will be offered at 1333 or 1600 for the 150.

Hope this helps a little bit.

When does the P150EM come out? Also I really dislike the plastic glossy finishing on the casing. Are there any other models with some texture where the hands rest?

They are under NDA until tomorrow. There won't be a peep until the NDA expires

    That strongly depends.

What kind of GPU (graphics card) do you need? I would presumably say that the Satori is a better choice.

If it's for school, I would consider a brand that offers "Next Business Day" repair services with their warranty/upgrades.
However, this is only my opinion.

NDA are lifted tomorrow. However, Malibal has the P170EM up as of this morning. Don't know if this was a mistake release or if it was cleared.

Do you know of a place that offers this? I would be using mine for work (in addition to gaming), so downtime without a lappy is difficult.

you wouldn't. It's not something that is posted on every resellers sight. A lot of people had to dig around to find the answer to the refresh release. I received an e-mail from a reseller rep stating that the NDA lift would be today.

I don't see any lifts as of yet but I expect to see them fairly soon today.

Also, I think the P170EM that was up on Malibal's sight yesterday was a mistake. It was up for a few hours then brought down. Probably just a slip. I was about to pull the trigger and wish I had lol!

As for next business day repair..... as far as I know that would be pretty much alienware/dell. I don't know any other company that will do next day in home service.

Anyway, hope you find what you're looking for and my honest opinion is to go with a sager/Clevo as they are definitely the best "bang for the buck"!!!

If you want aesthetics with par to subpar components, or have a lot of cash for rip off upgrade prices.......... go with Alienware...... if you want a computer with great components and are highly upgradeable without destroying your warranty..... sager/ clevo.

As far as who you by from, there are quite a few resellers for the sager/clevo's. Highly noted and regulars to the NBR world are Xoticpc, Malibal and Mythlogic. (note: these are US resellers. Not sure where you're from)

    Hope this helps
