The CPU heatsink for my Sager NP8690 came with bad scratches on it, can I buy a replacement online, or do I need to sand it?

it is just scratches. IS your Laptop running in acceptable temperatures? There is no reason to get a new heatsink if it still works the same as a non scratched one.

If the scratches are somewhat superficial surface scratches you would not notice any difference in temps, versus a non scratched heatsink. If they are a little deeper than I would take some fine sandpaper and lap the heatsink to smooth it out a bit. I wouldn't waste money on another heatsink.

Yeah, I just bought some 800 grit and 1000 grit sand paper, so I'm going to try sanding it, do you know where I can get another heatsink if I can't fix mine? Thanks for the reply

Or just use your warranty to get a new one?

I thought changing the thermal paste voided the warranty. Plus I don't want to send it in.
