Saw the early review of the W860CU and the brightness scores seemed low. I used to have a Sony AR590 with a glossy XBrite HiColor (1920x1200) that was absolutely gorgeous. I then got a Sony FW490 with a XBrite FullHD (1920x1080) that was not as good. Apparently, it wasn't as "glossy" as the HiColor and did not appear as bright and colorful as a result.

Anyone know if the American W860CU and W870CU are going to have bright, beautiful screens? If not, who has the best screen for movies and games?

Shipments will be starting next week and surely you will see some reviews of this machine including screen brightness. NBR will surely be doing a review on both models.

There is already a review of the W860CU (notebookjournal) with testing of the 900p display.

Result is (summarized) good contrast and poor brightness.

Wasn't the notebookjournal machine a pre-production version, though? I remember someone mentioned the texturized palmrest.

    I mentioned that!!! :D

Somebody remember about me!!! YEAH!!!

I noticed it because I think the old palmrest looks horrible, while the new one is cool :)...I would not bought the W860 if it had the simil-skin palmrest :p

I think the textured palmrest looks cool. The plain plastic one looks cheap and crappy, like the dashboard of a Japanese car. Just something about the look of the plastic screams 'low quality'.

Notebookjournal praised most things about the 1600x900 screen except the brightness, which is very much average. So all in all its a good screen, just not class-leading.

Ok, I'll wait for the US review before making a purchase decision....but suppose the US folks come to the same conclusion about the screen. What is the "class-leading" laptop screen? Macbook Pro? The kind of screen I like are those super-bright, glossy, colorful screens that make Blu-Rays look gorgeous.

In that case you want a Dell Studio XPS 16 with RGB LED display. The screen on that thing is amazing.

Still looking for additional comments about the screens from those who have seen them. Perhaps the retailers (i.e. Justin) could comment on the screen quality of the W860CU vs the W870CU? Are they both made by AUO? Are they exactly the same in terms of brightness, contrast, etc., just different sizes or is one nicer than the other?

People will start to get them home any day now just wait for the reviews.
AUO makes both screens from what I have been told, early reviews( not counting NotebookJournal) have been very good on the 1920x 1080. :D

Ya, I'm waiting for the reviews, but to be honest, even if both screens are "great", I'm torn between the W860CU and the W870CU. Both have their advantages and disadvatages, so if there was a difference in screen quality between the two, it would definetely make my decision easy.
