So ever since i purchased my beloved np8660 back in august, i've been wondering if there would be a possible way of installing a nice, bright, LED-backlit screen in this puppy. I noticed the site www.screentekinc.com seems to be a very useful source but i don't know how i would tell what screens would fit inside the case lid, and if it uses some proprietary connection to the GPU. I've heard however, that the screen is interchangeable with some other sager models, i think one of which may be LED - backlit. If anyone has the skinny on this it would be so greatly appreciated

Pm an NBR member named Zfactor - he frequents this forum and is the resident genius when it comes to knowledge about display units.

normally the led's are part of the lid itself on most models which requires the whole lid to be swapped out. dell is like this. led ones also have a different way of connecting due to them not needing the normal inverter. the main lvds cable is the same but you would have to power the leds up somehow. this would require a different cable also. imo not worth the time.

let me look into what will fit that system.

ya if you could give me a small list about what could fit into the system that would be great! I'm having issues with some stuck pixels (some in the middle of the screen) and an off-colored/brighter circle (about .8cm in diameter). If there is some screen that is perhaps better quality (not as grainy-like on white backgrounds) and one that may display with a higher maximum brightness, that would be amazing. Let me know what you come up with! thanks!

I actually had an inordinate amount of dead/stuck pixels on the original LG screen that came with my M860TU poopdawg. It was actually so bad that Sager allowed me to send it back for repair, because there was a clump of like 6 or 7 just hanging out in the middle right portion of the screen, about halfway from the center to the edge. Not sure if it's just coincidence or if there's a problem with th LGs in the M860 that causes this, but you're not alone

yeah ive been talking to an xoticpc CSR about it and sent some pictures...we'll see if they warrant it okay for a replacement but i simply can't be sending the lappy away... i'd need to do a cross-ship. I'll gladly fix it myself and neeeed my laptop every day.

Actually I'm really interested in this topic. I just purchased a np8662 from xoticpc and since I'm leaving the country I am looking for viable screens (on the off chance mine has 4 off center dead pixels for example).

Anyone have some model numbers to toss my way? I'm going to do a search on the one posted earlier, but would be interested in any suggestions.

    EDIT:
Just found a great thread for those curious too:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=343478&highlight=Screen+Replacement

The screen LTN154U2-L05 is a model available on ebay for ~120 dollars shipped for those curious (this one is installed in a few np8660s). Would any old 15.4" lcd work in this laptop? IE are the connections standardized? I guess I would have to worry about thickness, but what about mounting points? Any information would be great, thanks.
