Hi everybody, I've got a BIG problem: the screen on my M570TU doesn't work anymore!
I was just watching some youtube movies and surfing on the internet, and suddenly the screen goes black!! I thought it had gone in sleep mode by accident or something (even though the power button was still glowing), but even pressing buttons or pressing the sleep mode button didn't work. So I powered it off and powered it back on, but the screen is still black!

I'm freaking out here! The laptop is not even a month old and already it seems to be broken?!

I've already tried opening it up and looking at the components to see if something was wrong. The GPU and the CPU still seem to be working (at least their fans are working).

Is there anything else I can do before I send it back to Kobalt? Is there a way to see if my motherboard is fried?

If you reboot the computer you are not seeing anything either from the boot screen, bios screen etc? And if you let it restart is the computer working loding stuff as if to get into windows or just hangs? In any case you will probably need to contact kobalt and send it in to change the screen or look at what is wrong, maybe is just a loose connection that decided to jump out of the soket for good :). Give them a call before doing anything else, if you have warranty is always better to talk it out with the company before deciding to taki it appart ;).

Could be the backlight. Even if the backlight is out you can still see a faint image on the screen sometimes.
An external monitor would confirm if there is an issue with your graphics card.

If the backlight failed after that short of a time period, maybe the inverter is broken.

Try taking out the battery and leaving it unplugged for 5 mins then plug it in and turn it on.

Also if you know how to open it up to check the connection to the mobo do that.

I haven't tried using an external monitor yet, because I'm not at home at the moment... But I don't think it's the monitor, since I should hear the welcome sound of Vista when it hits the welcome screen. Since I don't hear it, I'm thinking that it's not booting up at all.

I don't see anything at all. But yeah, I e-mailed them, hopefully it's something trivial...

    That didn't work :(

shine a flashlight on the screen in a dark room and see if you can see images on the screen.. if so then its either the bulb or the inverter. it will be faint but this will show some color on the black screen. hold it at a bit of a upward angle to the screen kinda shining the light up the screen.

if that doesnt work then it could be a few other things: bad gpu card, bad cable to the lcd, or the magnetic switch that turns of the display when the lid closes ....

    Negative, no images whatsoever.
So that probably means I'll have to send it in then :(

Try using a linux liveCD or theUltimateBootCD to see if you can boot directly from the CD/DVD drive.
